72 bug Shifting problem (Grinding Gears)

It started out by not shifting down into 1st with out grinding until completely stoping. it has progressivley gotten worse and wont shift into 1st at all with out grinding (shifting down or from neutral). Any ideas?

It sounds like your clutch just needs adjusting. If the clutch never fully dis-engages, it drags which turns the transmission which causes it to grind non-syncronized gears, usually first and reverse. You can usually remedy this by removing SOME of the slack in the clutch cable. If you plan on doing this yourself, inspect everything in the clutch system for obvious damage(bent mounts, kinked/rusted clutch cable, bent clutch rod, etc..) The slack adjuster is located where the clutch cable meets the clutch rod. DON'T remove all the slack from the cable, because the clutch system needs some slack to work properly, and to allow for clutch plate wear. The best way is to remove some slack, then start engine. Stop when the clutch is fully releasing.
