Nah, no worries bro, that 5w30 is good for a lot colder than that.

Did you allow you engine to warm up at all?

I completely agree. Please people let your damn engines warm up some when it is cold. Summertime yea maybe starting right off is fine, but in the damn frigid winter please allow your engines to warm up and NEVER rev them to warm them up. Give yourself those few extra minutes to allow the oil to circulate and warm. I was also thinking of switching as I go to Canada and Northern Maine every weekend to ski and snowmobile and I am constantly towing. I have never once just taken my ice cold engine and driven just after it has been started. I never will. I would rather wait those 5 minutes for it to move a tick or two and save my engine and prolong the life of my truck as I am broke as a joke!

Take it really easy on your truck for a few miles after the warm up, and see what happens.

LT sees temps that make yours look warm, so he'll know better than the rest of us

Oh god yea I do.

-40f here last winter and lengthly drops for weeks below -5f.

It is amazing how my truck still runs like it does.

50 is actually quite low and nothing to worry about. You will get a little tap in the winter with cold oil.

Mine sometimes went over 3/4 in the extreme cold.

I might have to give you an invite to BC next summer for a break from the cold

Thanks for the offer, but one thing I dislike more than cold, is cold and damp.

Re: mobil 1 synthetic oil in the cold

It's the first time in years that I'm in a damp area.

I usually like in the Okanagan Desert. Osoyoos area (Canada's hottest city)
Although I just moved to Vancouver Island for a short bit to see if I like it here.

So far it's wet, and the women aren't as nice.
Not the best impression, but I do love the ocean just 5 min away.

I really don't know how long I'll want to stay here

Trust me, move back, it can get pretty bleak there.

Re: mobil 1 synthetic oil in the cold

I'm seriously thinking of it already.

It's raining here, and I got a reminder of how cold damp air really feels

It's the first time in almost a year that I'm actually cold even in winter gear.
And I was in Winterpeg when it was -40 out not too long ago

Re: mobil 1 synthetic oil in the cold

dry cold is nothing compared to damp cold.

Chills to the bone.
