Coolant Light

1998 V-6 3.1L

2 weeks ago I had to turn right and pull out fast into traffic (for survival purposes) and my coolant light came on.

I used to see this light appear in the past prior to my gasket replacement as the coolant would be low from the leaking.

This time the coolant level was fine but that darn light kept popping up.

It turns out the float was stuck in the reservoir, I spoke with a mechanic and he claims that Dexcool was the reason. The crude builds up.

He suggested that I loosen the bolts and shake it to break it free.

It Worked.

I have flushed the coolant in the past.

Does anyone have opinions about replacing the Dexcool with traditional green ?

I would not. But I don't let Dexcool last for 5 years in my car either - 3 at tops. Then Flush, Flush, Flush!

i flushed mine very good then put the green in it. i made sure all the dex was out before i put any green in. i know of three vehicles that had to be professionally serviced cause of build up of dex.
