1995 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER issue
Hello, I am a newbie to this site and thought someone could help me. I have a 1995 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER and are having an issue with a warning sound going off and then my temp gauge going from hot to cold, at first I will here a "click click" then the ding-ding-ding will go off and at the same time my temp gauge will go up and down, does not seem to over heat, however it did puke on me the other day after a long trip, but only out of the overflow (radiator fluid). Any suggestions? Thanks all.

First of all, you got to cover the basics. How much water is in the cooling system. You have to look at the level in the overflow tank and, when cold, pop the radiator cap and see if the radiator is full. The temperature gauge will bounce back and forth between hot and normal when the water level starts to drop inside the cooling system.
Next, check the operation of the electric cooling fans. If your fan relay is quirky, it may not be starting the fans when they should be on. How old is the thermostat? A failing thermostat will cause your symtoms as well. Check for leaks in your system. Rubber hoses deteriorate over time and should be replaced periodically. The water pump may be leaking water from the shaft seal. Check for leaks here and replace as needed. If you have the 3.0 liter V6, the water pump is in the timing case and you won't be able to see any sign of leakage until the leakage rate is moderate. Also check the radiator for leaks. Most likely your radiator has plastic side tanks and these have a tendency to crack with age and produce slow leaks under pressure. |

Ok here is an update, I changed the thermostat and it ran great for 3 days, on the way home from work tonight the temp gauge went from cold to hot and the "check gauges" light came on, it was brief and happened only twice. Any ideas?

Re: 1995 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER issue
Do you have white smoke comming out of you're exhaust? The wild swings of the thermostat can indicate a head gasket issue. I hope that's not the case. A reliable mechanic can test for this, or maybe someone here knows how to check.
Good luck! |

I do not notice any white smoke from the exhaust, I should see that while driving? But I do have another update. This morning on my way to work I thought I would turn the heat on for a spell only to discover that what was blowing out of the vents was anything but heat, the entire trip to work and still the heater was blowing cool air with a hint of warmth. Hope this helps you all.

Sounds like the impeller is slipping on the water pump or their could be other things going on like the thermo stuck open but u just replaced that the heater depends on the water pump check heater core lines after a few miles with the heater on they should be hot if not there is a cirulation problem or low coolent, well hope this helps |
