Unhappy (94 L.x)

I beleive this is a popular occurence with these types. What's that rattling sound that comes from the engine? It's really hard to locate it's actual origin when I stick my head under the hood, But it seem localized by the acc belts. Please help!

It could be piston slap or the valve train, but I am only going to go into what you can do yourself. To begin with, my escort makes all kinds of rattles and vibration. I think it goes with the territory. It could be the bearing on the tensioner or idler pulley that is bad. To find out, take off the belt. If the noise goes away or quiets down some it could be this, most likely. Least likely, is a bearing on the alternator, PS or AC. The bearing on the tensioner of the timing belt or the water pump could be worn. If it's not running bad or leaking antifreeze this is unlikely. Least likely, is the doughnut gasket of the exhaust pipe where it goes into the cat. My scort talks to me all the time and I don't think much about it.
