Re: how come they....

isn't supra coming back for 2007? But anyway, u cant afford to own it...so...u know what? (prolly laaaaater in 2017) Be happy w your cels, n the fact that big "T" discontinued it. Bc this is the moments where our own celicas start becoming legends in their own rights, dammit!

Re: how come they....

blame the people who bought RSXs instead of Celicas and blame toyota for not having LSDs stock in GT-Ss.

Re: how come they....

Two things:

I blame the fact toyota didn't do all they could to get rid of the "chick" car image and regain its place as a hard core tough as nails WRC winning racer. That's half the reason i own an 89 GT. The other half was the fact i couldnt' afford anything better (though i'm starting to kick myself for not picking up atleast one of the 300zx's offered to me).

The second thing: just because i own an 89 GT doesn't mean that i can't afford a new supra. I bought that car with all the money i could scrape together as my first car just after getting my liscence. I'm very proud of that fact as everyone else in my family had a hand me down or was given a new car as their first. Trust me, Calicelica...if the price is right, and the reviews are as good as they were for a targa turboed supra (not the tiwn turbo), that sucker is mine in late 2006...assuming my 89 doesnt' die early...

Re: how come they....

lol. 95 targa supra on ebay usually runs up to 20G...imagine dealers' brand new 2007. But if you are going to steal it, try to be single...bc you know what.
Also, isnt there the "cheating" argument/reasons? when Toyota was banned for a year from the WRC? That pretty much erases celicas' fame from being the tough as nail hardcore....
And also, no offense to Gen-7 owners.... though I like its look now (the TRD wing rocks) , I HATED IT w/ my guts when it first came out. wtf? it became a skateboard! blame them Calty guys (sorry :P) who blueprinted the chick magnet design... That's VWs department...

Re: how come they....

haha, the Gen-7s i think are a great change from the 2 earlier gens which gave it the chick car look. SSupras are like that on ebay...usually, outside of ebay, actual owners don't charge as much for the 92-94. Especially not for the single or twin turbos. Yes, the targa TT is amazing, but their rarity is why they're still up there in price. Personally, i've been told you can have more fun wiht a single turbo than a twin, no idea on how true that is, my MEC degree is more geared to robotics, not automation. I admit my utter ignorance. As for cheating, i never heard of it, so its all news to me. Finally, the cost of the new supra can't be that much compared to the cost they used to have. Seeing the competition and the market, it can't retail for more than 35k. I mean, would you pick an STi for 32 of the Evo for 35, which i believe is the new king of the hill that all other incoming racers will be measured against, or a supra for over ten grand more. Toyota knows their economics and will play accordingly. Kids will be driving them, just like kids are driving the former mentioned cars. Kids and nostalgic adults:-). Guess what, i'm a kid. I'll put 30g's on that car, or wait 2 years and drop a few g's less. I'm patient.

Re: how come they....

It's called financing, no one buys a car full on. Plus remember that a targa TT supra originally went for $40K plus. Who's going to pay that? And chick car celica, so what? So are tegs and RSXs but that didn't stop them from owning the celicas. I mean we didn't get the 3rd gen All-tracs so we got a half of a car really, designed more around AWD than FWD and then their is the tegs and B20 turbo swapped civics, even older CRXs designed with FWD more in mind. FWD cars suck, but what do expect? It's like trying to take a Subaru and and just use it as a FWD car o.0 So when they tried to make a integ killer they had everything correct in mind, but in the end they failed and produced a car that the community didn't accept as well as the hondas. I'd still take a 7th gen over any of the hondas. But why no LSD????????

Re: how come they....

Believe me, my friends and i buy our first cars "full on". New or used. I was just the only one to pay for mine with my own cash on hand instead of relying on other sourves, which is whyi got an old car. To be honest, i had a few 300zxs in my pricerange i didn't take because, FWD have bettter handling in nastier weather on less than optimal road conditions. I have driven both FWD and RWD, and, for a frist car, i preferred the control of a FWD.

I'm aware of the list priceof 44k for the TT supras, but its main competitors, the TT 300zx and the VR-4 3000gt. They were the "it" cars. even today, they garner the respect they deserve. However, they are no longer the fastest out there as technology and times have changed and usch speed can be had of 10K less than their price. The RX-7 died because it got more expensive than the dographic was willing to pay. That leads to my point: if toyota wants a success, they need to price it to the best of the best in street cars today AND make it comparable in speeds. Its simple marketing and economics. If a consumer can get more of what they want for less elsewhere, they will splurge on it for the first few years, like the thunderbird, but in the end it will die

Re: how come they....

I bought a car too full on ($500), but i'm talking about a NEW car. That's what we are talking about, beacuse unless people are buying new cars it doesn't mean shit to a car manufacturer, they are not interested in used cars, they actually want them not to last for more than 5 or 6 years. And you can talk high heaven about the Supra, but it cost too much or cost too much to make or whatever you want to say. But fact is, it didn't sell enough and they wanted better profits. It's why Toyota is top dog now, they know what makes more money.

Re: how come they....

Well,to be honest, FWD is more road friendly most of the time than RWD. But AWD is even friendlier. Regarding LSD itself, mb uneccessary. Isn't LSD a cornering torque control device? would make more sense to put LSDs in RWDs or AWDs instead of FWDs I thnk, considering celica's stock handling is already on par to take on "enthusiastic driver's demands" on the street level. Even entering beginner competition (like grassroots auto-cross) in a real track-- will do w/ simple spring change and shock stiffening. Btw, do touge guys here install LSD?
When it comes to Supra that is competitive enough in pricing, ummmm, I'm not sure THAT will happen. If its window price even says 35,000 I would be very surprised. ANd yes, mb Ill finance it as well. Its realistic pricing, I would imagine at least around 40G-50G. The reason I say this, Toyota's demograhic...would be first/foremost the rich well-do 10% of americans, that also know cars AND luxury cars such as the Lexus series (that ranges from 30G-65G). I dont think thell make supra's price range lower than lexus' otherwise it'll kill lexus's sales too. Plus, get the price too close to todays "it" cars, then non-toyota-loyalist consumer will buy them "it" cars...after all, if caviars are cheap, ppl won't want them...quote taken directly from paris hilton. :P

btw, lookit; just for thoughts.

Re: how come they....

actually the new supra is being made to compete with the z so i would expect the v6 version to be around 28000 and as for the 350hp v8 it could be around 35000. that would be the only logic thing for them to do. toyota needs to get into the same mindset as the americans, cheap speed, no one who buys toyotas cares about a nice interior or luxury. they want a car that looks good and is fast. thats what killed the supra, they had to jack the price up cause it had so much stuff in it. just keep it simple and cheap and people will buy it. look at cars like the mustang, camaro and srt4, cheap and fast.
