Re: alldata

my truck was having a real hard time starting, figured it was battery going dead. brought it in for test, sears said it was bad alternator... not enough output to recharge battery. went to autozone, picked up an alternator, slapped it in. everything was fine. drove back to my place (about 10 minutes from where i did the job) parked the truck overnight and when i went to drive it the next day, it wouldn't start.

i changed the battery, still nothing.
cleaned EGR, checked spark, fuel pump sounds like it's turning on... im thinking it might be something in the ignition electronics - coil packs, ICM - or it might be something with the fuel pressure regulator... if there are any TSBs for a hard start / no start for the 2.2, any VIN for 2001 - that would be awesome.

thank you so much.

Question Re: alldata

Do you have spark?, do the injectors pulse, will it start if you spray carb cleaner into the intake, these are basic checks, a tsb is not the answer here. Good fuel pressure?, you need to confirm all these requirements way before a "magic bullet" TSB.

Re: alldata

Just wondering what alldata offers for the price that you can't get through a shop manual, and some friendly advice from AF

i have spark, according to the noid lite the injectors pulse, it DOES start with a little starting fluid but idles rough and dies. if you play with the throttle as it dies, it eventually evens out and runs.

fuel pressure is good... once i got it started yesterday, it ran like a top.

my opinion is that it might have been bad gas... water in the line or something. I threw a lucas treatment in with a half tank of sunoco ultra. we'll see if it starts later.

specific text...

it's been my experience that AF is great for mechanical problems, but when it comes to the electronics, there's never a unifying answer, which is why I'd like to consider all the angles up to and including tsbs.

i love this place.
