subs cutting out. help
Starting today, I noticed my subs cutting out a little once i turned the HU volume to a certain level. Once it gets to a certain point, they cut out completely. If its really low, its keeps cutting in and out every split second, unless i have the HU set at its lowest setting, the subs work(faintly)
I know the amp is not going into protection mode, because the light stays lit when the sound cuts out. So this should mean that my power/ground connections are solid as well. So my only guess is that my rca's are to be blamed. I just installed my setup a couple weeks ago, from my old car, but with a different HU and all new hardware. It was a cheap amp kit that i used, so thats why i'm thinking its the rca's. Anyone else agree, or have any other suggestions? |

Re: subs cutting out. help
What equipment are you running and what car do you have? What size wiring are you using? It could be that you do not have enough current at high volume (could be that wiring is too small).

Re: subs cutting out. help
Possibly loose/bad wiring. Centralize the problem.

Re: subs cutting out. help
I'm using 10ga power and ground wire in a 86 E30. I have only a 280w 4 channel amp powering two 12" subs. I have the gains set exactly what I did in the car I took the system out of. The HU has the same power output as the system used to power it in the other car as well.
I have the same size wiring in my neon that I took the system out of which had no prior problems. |

Re: subs cutting out. help
What brand amp?
Seems like your 10 gauge power wire is limiting current. Go for 8 gauge instead, or better yet, 4.

Re: subs cutting out. help
I will consider it, but what i'm saying is that i've never had problems with it in my old car, same guage wiring. I'm using the same amp and subs from the old car, its a kenwood amp, and plye subs. I've had it installed in this car for a couple weeks now, with no problems what so ever
Why would it be a problem now all of a sudden. Can cheap rca cables be the culprit? |

Re: subs cutting out. help
Only way to find out is to get a different RCA cable.

I found a more solid ground location. As well, the bolt was a little loose on my previous ground location, so that would explain why it just started doing it all of a sudden.
So far its back to normal. Thanks for the help |
