blinker shuts off headlights

In my 93 cav, when the turn signal lever shuts its self off form turning wheel opposite direction, the headlights shut off. The switch for the lights which is on the lever does not get turned but the lights still go out. The car must be restarted to get the lights to come back on. You can pull the high beam switch and hold to keep high beams on, but the lights still go out when u release it. ANyone ever heard of anything like this?
