Freeze Plug Problem!! Anyone Please Help..?!

So here's the problem:

About a month ago, I was driving along the highway, when suddenly my 94 Mitsubushi Galant, used, with a little over 180,000 miles on it, started smoking, anti-freeze came in through the air conditioner, it was over heated with the temp gauge on H, the CHECK ENGINE light came on, the engine quit... low and behold, we found out it was the freeze/pressure plug right beneath the timing pulley/belt. So today we replaced the old aluminum freeze plug with a new rubber plug. I drove it a bit, washed it because it had been sitting, put some gas in it, put new anti-freeze in, new oil... everything... had no problems. Just a few hours ago, I had it out and it started smoking, and making that ticking sound telling you it's over heated with the temp gauge on H, and the CHECK ENGINE light came on. I suspect it's the freeze/pressure plug, but I'll have to check tomorrow. Can anyone please give me some hints as to why this is happening? Is it building up too much pressure, losing water/anti-freeze too fast, and is there anything else that needs done to help resolve this problem?? All responses are welcome! Thanks!

if its losing water it will over heat and cause gasket and oil seals to go soft and lose oil, and the oil is also used to take heat away from the engine. you have to pressure test your cooling system to find the leak. if its blowing oil out its probly your pressure relief valve (usually on the oil pump or filter housing)
