So I raced an RB26DETT 240sx.

I pulled into a chinese place to get my chinese order and as I'm walking in, I hear an orgasmic engine start. I see a black 240sx with a tiny exhaust (he was open downpipe obviously). I knew it was some sort of turbo motor, and thought about running to my car to entice him to run, but them my stomach overruled my brain and I got my order.

On my way out of the chinese place, I look across the street, and the 240sx is sitting in a left-turn only lane, idling. There is noone blocking his turn so I know he's waiting for me. My guess is he saw my front mount and wanted a run.

So Anyway I pull out and he follows. We pace eachother for about half a mile, he's very eager to race. He keeps flooring it and letting off, letting me know he's turbo. Might I add he had quite a bit of turbo lag, so I don't believe he was stock turbo's, or if he was just inching the throttle, I'll never know.

Anyway, we happen to catch a light (the busiest light in the city might i add) I look over:

"what engine is that"

"rbtt"

"wow, skyline motor, pretty rare, nice car"

"thanks, you too"

me, "wanna race?

"sure lets go"

"not here man, this is too busy"

"ok fine"

So we drive about 2 miles toying with each other when we finally reach the highway (the road we were on turns into a highway)

We reach about 70mph. he has about a 2 car lead and floors it, DAMN that motor sounds nice! I floor it in 4th (out of my powerband) and we climb to about 120. He is still exactly 2 cars ahead, he didn't gain an inch, neither did I.

I brake because 120 on this highway is too fast IMO, he keeps climbing and speeds away. I exit and do a U-turn and wait for him to come back, I also adjust my boost to 20psi (race boost), he never comes back. Too bad, I would have liked to talk to him. Good race either way

Also, might I add I was only running 15psi (my daily boost). I can't say that I'd pull him at full boost, because I don't know if he started in his powerband, and what kind of boost he was running. I do know that 20psi is night/day difference from 15psi in my car. That is where my turbo comes alive. He was definitely modded, but to what extent I don't know, all i know is open downpipe.

Either way I'll find him again. This is a very small town, and if he lives here, I'll find him, and race him at full boost. I'll post if I find him again.

ur name is mang?? are you like....asian or something? anyways....nice race, my cousin's husband plans to swap in a skyline motor in his 240 as well, but....imo when you swap engines, its not original anymore. Most civic guys swap for an integra engine, so its not a true civic anymore, if swaped skyline motor in a 240, its not a true 240 anymore, know what i'm saying? me, i dunno, it's just something to think about....

No, his name is not Mang... it's a slang word. It's Man, but with the way a mexican would say it.

It's common in SoCal.

I doubt that it was an RB26. Probably an RB20.

I second that. Anyone who bothers to spend the money on an rb26 swap is prolly going to have it modified to atleast 400whp IMO.

Well I went with my roommate to grab some wings, and on the way back I saw him again. We were going different ways so I didn't get to talk to him again, but I'll catch him again and get a clean run soon.

Thats messed up man, as a latin I am offended by that remark!

CUBANS SAY "MANG" ALL THE TIME TOO CHICO!

actually I dont know if they do or not because they always say "brode" instead of "brother". But Scar Face said mang and he was cuban!

Dude and RB26 RPS180 is sweet shit, Ive only seen SR20s around here. Thats like number one kill on my list as soon as I get my fully built G54B in teh Starion.

Nice race "mang", I'm so jelous now.

haha I'm PuertoRican and we never use "mang"

I thought it was a Cuban/Scarface thing

I would go try to find him again (there's only 2-3 main streets in this city), but I'm drunk, hehehe

drinking and racing = bad

Re: So I raced an RB26DETT 240sx.

beautiful thing, everyone's right though prolly only a lesser rb, but i'll vote on the 25 instead of the 20, cuz the 20 was only single turbo correct?

you all forget dsm's w/ front mounts like that ^^ are noooo joke!!!

on the RB26 is a TT. all the other RB's are single turboed. a bone stock RB26 in a hatch back with a good driver will hit 12's all day long. so if he had a single turbo conversion, it should be pushing atleast 500+whp since stock twins can hit 400whp easily.

plus if he had a RB26 and if the gearing is the same for the 5 speed RB GTR trannys as the rb25 trannys, he will almost never run out of gear. those things can hit 120mph in 3rd because they rev to 8K stock with tall ass gears ( for the 5 speed GTRs )

You probably have already said it before but what is your DSM pushing hp wise?

Re: So I raced an RB26DETT 240sx.

Well it's difficult to say without a true dyno, BUT

judging by my airflow tables and boost somewhere around of 330ish to the wheels on an agressive tune.

Cams and a sheet metal intake manifold are next, hopefully this will put me near the 400whp mark. Some guys running this turbo are over the 400 mark. In fact one guy is running about 420whp on an AWD and in the 11's.

Once I max out this turbo I'll get a daily driver and slap on a monster turbo.

I don't really like to do numbers without a true dyno, but the butt-dyno rating is high!
