controlling your heart-beat.

is it possible through meditation, or through psychoactive drugs to control your own heart-beat?

I had an experience where I could hear my own pulse. As I further relaxed and slowed it down, my vision became blurred and reddish. My body began melting away into the surroundings(like into the person sitting beside me and the couch I was sitting on).

I became scared and quickly got up and moving. Just wondering if it was all my imagination... I've read stories about ego-loss at the beginning of LSD trips... but I had only smoked a potent batch of MJ(plus there might have been remnants of hallucinogens in my system).

Whenever I got extremely stoned on Mary-Jane sometimes my heart would beat faster. I just sat down and breathed. It was fine shortly there after.

How potent exactly was this? I've smoked waaay too much schwag and dro, and essentially had to just pass out for a little while. Rarely did I ever see my heart rate increase rapidly. With dro you sometimes have to be careful. Only had a bad reaction once, and it was one of the few times I smoked with someone I didn't know. I believe it was laced with something. I started getting a bad headache and very scary thoughts of wanting to kill the people that were pissing me off and then kill myself. It scared me quite a bit.

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

Monks have been known to control their heartbeats, almost completely stop it. It takes years of meditation tho, because hearbeats and stuff like that are involuntarily controlled.

I've also heard of a case where someone put wet towels on the monks backs, and they raised their temperature so high it dried the towel.

Anyone else know of any more instances?

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

The first time I ever smoked really good weed (C99 to be exact) I smoked quite a bit and after about 1/2 a hour it hit to the full extent(the cindy is quite a creeper) and if i closed my eyes I would seem to go into the "falling spin" of colors flashing and my heart would "seem" to almost stop beating, absolutley crazy shit, only happened that first time. It was a great feeling, but i would get really paranoid and open my eyes, and then my heart would start beating really fast. I've heard of breathing excersises to control your heartrate and types of "medetation" but i dunno you're heart should be beating normally and if not something is wrong. Peace-

in the early 60s, monks set themselves on fire and ritualistically commited suicide in protesting Vietnamese anti-buddhist movements.

they quietly sat in their meditation pose as they were slowly engulfed.
imagine how much control that would have taken.

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

^Yeah, what happens if you find a way to consciously control your heartbeat, then you can forget to make it beat, and you die

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

sometimes i feel like i can control my heart beat. Like if i start thinking about it, i can feel my heart beating in my chest. Then i think about each beat as it happens. I try and will them to go slower, sometimes it gets to the point where i think its not gonna beat again, so i quickly try and change what my mind is thinking, usually returns to normal.

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

The first time I ever heard about biofeedback it was with regards to teaching people with hypertension to calm themselves. But upon reading the link I supplied above, I realize that there are significantly more applications for such a thing.

Sorry, I just felt the need to reply with something.

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

I love just sitting, breathing slowly in and out, for 10-15 minutes, just relaxing, thats almost as good as anything.

Re: controlling your heart-beat.

there are many drugs that can increase or decrease your heartbeat. think about cafene, it speeds up your heartbeat, i'm sure that most illegal drugs change your heartbeat.

You can also slow your heartbeat pretty slowly through controlled breathing. what you do is sit or lie, don't move, inhale for 4 seconds at a constant rate, hold it for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds at a constant rate, hold it for 4, when you inhale again don't gasp, fight your bodies tendency to breath in hard and breath slowly, it's slightly uncomfortable at first but your body gets used to it and it's not that bad. you may feel yourself sinking into your surroundings and seeing different colors when you inhale and exhale, usually something red or yellow when you inhale, blue or green when you exhale. your heartbeat will slow, it won't stop but it will slow. doing this is very relaxing and can sometimes be more relaxing than sleep. if you need a nap at some point in the day, try this for a few minutes, just concentrate on your breathing and try to block out other thoughts. after a few minutes (15 minutes is usually ok, more is better) you should feel slightly refreshed.

isn't english class fun? my english teacher tought me that, the guys a freakin genious (literally, he's got an iq that is concidered genious) he knows everything about just about everything, sports, literature, art, languages, math, sciences, etc.
