Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

If you do I was wondering if your gauges had the white back and also if they had a 6800 or 6000 redline and a top speed of 150 or 160....

Re: Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

neatofrito1618 that is not a real Cobra gage face. That is for an automatic and SVT never made an automatic Cobra. The speedo should go up to 160 however top speed is limited to 155 thanks to the governor.

Re: Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

What makes you say automatic? I can't see anything in that picture that tells me anything but Cobra....

98StangGT-You need to simply look at the VIN number on the car. If the 8th digit is a V, it's a Cobra. The first 7 digits are going to be 1FALP42 if it's a coupe, 1FALP45 if it's a 'vert. The next digit after that is a V only if it is a real Cobra from Dearborn. V is the engine code for the 305 HP DOHC 4.6L engine. Otherwise it's a fake and the guy needs to sell me the back bumper!

You wouldn't happen to be in Louisiana would you? I know a guy tryin' to sell a black 97 Fobra here....

Yea checking out the VIN would definitely be the best way to go, however assuming it is in fact a cobra, it still doesnt have the proper gauges and i then have to worry about odometer fraud because it looks like it has gauges from a GT.

Re: Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

All newer 5 and 6 speed Mustangs have a RPM gauge from the factory. Only automatics are not equipped with them.

Re: Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

Whoops, I was looking at his first link, the look into the interior of the '96 Mystic Cobra. I don't know what the heck the other one was, I've never seen/driven an auto 'Stang without a tach. My buddy's '95 has an auto and the guages pretty much look like any other GT.

Lots of Fords with autos have tachs, my '89 Ranger did, my Mom's '92 Explorer did, My Dad's '93 F-150 with a 302 has one, but my F-150 351W/Auto didn't have a factory tach (has an autogage 3.5" tach now)

The '96-98 Guages were all identical, I can get a good clear close-up 6 meg picture of a '97 Cobra dash in the next few days, there's one at my buddy's shop getting bodywork done.

Re: Anybody here own a 96 Cobra?

Here is a better pic of the dash out of a 96. It doesn't seem that different from what I have in my 01 other than I have a digital readout for the odometer.
