Grand Prix Question Help please
Ive been recently thinking about getting a 2004 pontiac grand prix GTP but am really questioning the reliability. Has anyone taken one over 100k? Any help with the reliability would be great.
Thanks. |

Re: Grand Prix Question Help please
Unfortunately there may not be anyone who can answer that question due to the newness of the '04 GTP. If the car has a 3.8 in it I doubt you will need to worry about one going more than 100K the 3.8 has a reputation of being a tough engine which can be heavily modified and it comes back for more.
My '97 GTP has 143K on the original engine, unfortunately the tranny went at 140K but only after a lot of hot rodding. I just put a set of TOG headers on it and I am in the process of having it painted with a new ram air hood and new rear spoiler. Going to work on the interior as well so I would not worry about an '04, it has many good years and miles ahead of it! |

Re: Grand Prix Question Help please
Any GTP is fun to drive. Haven't heard of any electrical problems with these cars unlike the Grand Ams that had a major problem with the passlock system.

Re: Re: Re: Grand Prix Question Help please
Unlike the older 3800 Series II, the 3800 Series III normally aspirated engine does not have the old troublesome plastic upper intake manifold. It was replaced with an all aluminum UIM and electronic throttle control.
On the '04 and up GTP/Comp G, the Eaton M90 Gen3 supercharger was replaced with the improved Eaton M90 Gen5. Also it now has the 75mm throttle body compared to the 70mm of the 3800 Series II supercharged. Stock 260 hp versus 240 hp of the old.
