Turbos

So Im cruisin down the highway today and I goin about 90-95 and a lotus comes up beside me. Well We end up goin at it. Well we're side by side the whole way only bec my 2nd turbo was like kickin in and out. So im thinkin to myself it could be a problem with induction, fuel or the turbo itself. If anyone has had the same problem with their FD and know what it was please fill me in. Thanks

Re: Turbos

There sequential, meaning one turbo is for low boost and one for high. So it is common for them to come on and off but you may have a vacume leak somewhere causing a problem for you.

Re: Turbos

Yes, no perticular one dumps pressure, but there is a turn over point at which time the second turbo kicks in and builds up more boost than the inital turbo. Its a common problem to experance a drop in boost right at the transition point.
There were 3 models of FD offered in north america. the touring equipped with leather seats, upgraded stero, upgraded sound dedning materila ect ect. Then there was the R1 and R2 models. They ahd twin oil coolers, front air dam, rear spoiler, upgraded suspension, dedicated front brake ducting, front strut tower, no cruse control,no leather or automatice tranny.

There were three major recalls on the FD. Ill try to remeber them.
There was a fuel line recall ID# 95V0690000, the line is under the UIM and is more heat resistenat and involves a relay to turn on the cooling fan to cool everything down under the hood.
There was a cooling sytem recall ID# 94V0940000, involves replacing some cooling system parts with stronger units, like the water pump bearing housing, water level sensor, upper rad hose, and all upper engine bay engine hoses.
There was a break recall ID# 96V1490000, involved replaceing the vacume check valve and hose leading to the brake booster.

Some other common problems that are common;
No boost above 4500rpm
Oil pressure guage reads 0psi
hood squeaks and rattles
hand brake light comes on while driving
low coolant alarm goes off
radio flasshes err code
paint problems
battery failure
brake rotor warping
suspension clunk
cracked factor wheels
oil pan leak
interior parts cracking and rattling

For the boost one, which i covered a bit before the best way to find out the exact problem. There shoudl be 10psi up to 4500rpm, then drop to 8psi till redline.

Well I dont think its one turbo turnin over another. Its too bad of a sput to be a turn-over. And it doesnt happen for like a second. It happens the whole time the turbo is running til it gets to redline.

It is. From 3000-3500 its 10 then it drops to 8 by 4000 and back to 10 by 4500 all the way til about 7000 then it slowly drops off. This problem happens from 4500 to 7000. It feels almost like theres no gas in the car and its puttin off fumes.

LOL ... Yeah, thats what I said in my first post. It could also be a number of other things aw well. Induction, Fuel or it could be the turbo. Those are just the obvious things ill check.

Well I took apart all my induction lines and vacuum hoses. Kinda cleaned em up a bit and put em back on. No more problem so im guessin it was just a leak somewhere.
