Retarded, but possible

Well, one of my long asked questions was just answered by one of my friends and me...will 275/17/40 wheels fit on a 2000+ eclipse? The answer, to my dismay, is yes....yes they will. I could not believe that these HUGE wheels and tires actually fit, and WORKED with this car. Granted, in the end the car looks like a "beaner mobile" (ie. the wheels stick out about 3'' from the fenders), but it actually worked. The only real problem that we found was the the rear fender did not allow enough suspenssion play, the fender actually ends up hitting the wheel when the shocks are compressed...possible causing a cut tire. BUT, if there is only 1 person in the car, and big bumps are avoided, this car can become a lateral g machine. I took some turns today that nearly made me shit my pants because i was going so fast. I was able to brake incredibly hard...you would have to feel it to really appriciate how crazy this was. Launching was a dream, however, wheel hop was 100x worse if you broke lose at all. All in all though, if it didnt look so incredibly homosexual, i would do it for the summer. The reason i put them on was because my buddy stores his Cobra for the winter, and these are his summer tires...we were bored and checked it out. I will post some pics tomorrow when its daylight...it really is the craziest thing ive ever seen on a 3G.

Re: Retarded, but possible

What was the offset of the wheels? It would have to be some crazy ass offset to get the wheels to kick out enough to clear the suspension. With my evo 8 wheels which are 17x8 with a +38 offset and 235/45/17 tires they come VERY close to the suspension.

yeah, sorry, i was a little drunk/very tired.

I dont know what the wheel offset was, but in the front it only rubs a little on the plastic part of the inside front fender, nothing bad at all. It clears the struts and everything fine. In the rear, it is seriously like 1mm away from hitting that upper control arm (i think thats what it is...its the metal piece that goes above the weel). I think they are like 17x9.5 or 10. These wheels are seriously huge...the footprint is outragious. Ill post some pics here in a little.

Sidewall Shot, 275/40/17

Wheel Shot

Beaner Style from the front

Angle Shot

Big Foot!!!

Beaner Shot from the rear

It really does make the car look like a beast!

The only place it rubs in the front.

Another angle...

This is the metal pice in the rear that i said was really close, but not touching. It is REALLY close...

Let me know if you guys think this looks bad...at first it was a little bit of a shock, but it's looking better the more i get used to it.
