Question Paint job on C4

Hello again, I was just wondering how much would be to get a "good" paint job done on a C4 Vette? That is including paint plus labor. The thing is that I work right next door from Chuys (Restaurant/Bar), and one friday night, some drunk driver, hit my baby, not too hard to damage the panel, it just knocked off some paint and cracked the paint around that area. And then, somebody scratched the area, in between the left tailights and the license plate with a big ass rock, and they left the rock there too, I was pissed. And then, somebody threw an egg at it. Looks like a have a few "fans" around here, huh? Plus, it has a few blemishes all around. A friend of mine told me it was gonna cost me, for sure, at least $8000, for a decent paint job, not great, but decent. I think thats a lot of money. How much money have you guys paid for your paint jobs? Ive never had one before, and since Im gonna be getting my X-mas bonus next month, I was thinking about getting my baby a new paint job for x-mas . And I would also install some new weatherstripping too. By the way, I was thinking of getting the same color it has right now, it looks like artic white. Thanks a lot guys, and it would really help out a lot if you could post some pics to show off your paint jobs and your Vettes.

I need to repaint my C4 as well. Whoever owned it before must have pranged the hood it and decided to repaint the entire car in Nissan blue by simply doing the cheap-ass $50 spray-over-the-paint job.
Now it’s peeling away and I am going to need about $5,000 AUD to give it a bulletproof paint job.

Still I find it odd that you were given a quote of $8,000 USD for a non-metallic paint job.
I mean the one I’m thinking of is an electron blue with 2 white stripes down the middle and possibly even some nifty artwork painted on. All that for around about $5,000 – $5500 AUD including a 10% GST.
I would shop around a bit more if I were you, as 8k sounds a bit rich.

Not meaning to be mean to you or anything, but I think I would find a better place to park it before I spent any money on paint.

Re: Paint job on C4

You can save a few bux on the paint job and get a much better job if you remove the chrome. Take all the emblems, side markers and tail lights and other crap off the car so they can paint under it. Then put it all back on when the paint has set, usually several days after. Tell the body guy what you intend to put the emblems back on so they don't puddy over the holes, and put some tape over the backside of the holes to control overspray. Ask around for a top quality body shop in your area, here I use my buddy Gabe at SandMan, but more than likely it's a long drive for you. DO NOT GO TO CHEVY, most dealership body shops are horribly to criminally bad. Our local Chevy shop was actually pretty good, but new management fixed that. Tell the body man that any overspray is going to be removed at his cost, he must be careful.

Re: Paint job on C4

Cool, thanks a lot. I will ask around and that was a very good tip, to remove all the emblems first, to save a couple bucks. Thank you again!!!

I OWN A BODY SHOP AND HAVE 9 TECHS WHO PAINT. I AM A TOTAL PAINT NERD AND HAVE A FIT EACH DAY CHECKING PAINT WORK. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO DO A PERFECT JOB. ALL MATERIALS MUST BE ACTIVATED FROM START TO FINISH (NO AIR DRY MATERIALS). I WOULD EXPECT AN AVERAGE PAINT JOB TO START ABOUT $5000.00 WITH MATERIALS. IT COULD EASLY GO TO $8000.00 IF YOU ARE CONCIDERING HAVING A SHOP DO A PAINT JOB INSIST ON SEEING A CUSTOMERS CAR THEY HAVE COMPLETED, ASK ABOUT WARANTEE, AND MAKE THEM GIVE YOU A LARGE TEST PANEL TO LOOK AT IN THE SUN AND TO TAKE HOME SO YOU CAN SEE HOW THE QUALITY OF THE PAINT WILL LOOK. COMPARE THIS TO THE FINISHED PRODUCT. I GIVE ALL MY CUSTOMERS A 2 FOOT SQUARE SAMPLE TO TAKE HOME AND SIGN IT. THEN WE ALL KNOW THAT WE AGREED ON THE EXACT COLOR AND QUALITY OF THE FINISHED JOB. THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO LOOK AT STRIPE SAMPLES TOO. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CAR. QUESTIONS E-MAIL ME AT [email protected] RICK
