need storing precautions for my civic
hi guys, i am leaving for iraq in 2 days and am wondering what i should do to prep my car in order for it to be ok when i get back from iraq sometime in the future. i figure changing the oil, disconnecting the battry, and adding fuel additive would be good enough but unfortunately thats all i know to do. if there is anything else i need to do please let me know. the motor is a d15b7 so i am not exactly upset about if it refuses to start when i get back. i just need it to run long enough to drive it from texas back to north carolina so i can get the motor swapped with a motor of my choice. anything is apprreciated guys and i look forward to talking with yalla bout wtd when i get back. thanks and be safe
sgt. max

Re: need storing precautions for my civic
setting it on jackstands so the weight is off the tires is a good idea, besides what you listed. If mice or small animals are plroblem moth balls in the car, trunk, & under hood are a good idea also. Car cover.
I found this - http://www.americancollectorsins.com/storage.htm Covering the tail pipe is a great idea, my uncles jeep stored over winter in WS was filled with nuts probably from a squirl. Good luck in Iraq! |

Re: need storing precautions for my civic
i had thought of putting it on jack stands and swapping bak to my 13" steelies to keep from messing up my better than stock rims. i will be covering the car with a car cover so its no big deal about covering the tailpipe. its going to be stored in my garage so thats also a plus. the only reason i am storing it is because my wife cant drive a stick. i just got a full tank of gas so i aint gonna waste that stuff, just adding some fuel additive to keep it resh. when i come back for my R&R i'll start the car and re do everytjhing to make sure it doesnt get too old in there. any more tips are appreciated.
i do have one question about the jack stands. wouldnt tht dry rot the seals on the shocks and struts by taking all the pressure off of them. i have a new set of tokico hp's and tokico 1 3/4" drop springs but i just want to make sure the suspension is ok to ride on when iget back and can get it into the shop.

Re: Re: need storing precautions for my civic
it's better off leaving the weight off the suspension if the car is being stored.

Why not have your wife come out once a month and run it for about half an hour or so. Just enough time to get the engine warm.
