60 MPH shimmy
Grandson just bought a 2001 Elantra with 60,000 miles on odometer (it came woth a warranty to 100,000 miles). Dealer changed timing belt, water pump and tires but she has a mild shimmy at 60 MPH and I am guessing ball joints, control arm bushings or both, what do you folks
think? Bear |

Re: 60 MPH shimmy
If the 100,000 mile warranty you're referring to is the Hyundai factory warranty, you're in for a shock: that warranty only applies to the first owner.
As far as wheel shimmy goes, this is an issue with Elantras and it may need to be balanced on a Hunter machine. You can see what Hyundai tells their dealers about wheel shimmy here. Click on "NVH", then ''Wheel & Tire". They know it's a problem and tell their dealers how to fix it. |

60 MPH shimmy
Grandson purchased a extended warranty so that is not an issue. As car has 68,000 miles I told him to require at purchase a new timing belt and since they had the labor pretty much done add in a new water pump, also to have dealer change transmission fluid and filter. Dealer has agreed to all of the above so hopefully he is on the road to a good used car.
Thanks for the response. |
