2003 Montana - rear suspension problem

I had a rear suspension problem with my 2003 Montana 2 days ago. The minivan was sitting very high at the rear and the rides were VERY bumpy. I took it to the GM dealer. After at least 6 hours, they told me that it was: "rear level suspension is inop, ... checked for rear ride height to high, found level rider rod loose. replaced rod"

Then they replaced the rod and it only costed $74cdn in total. The good thing is that the minivan is still under GMPP extended warranty, so there is no cost to me.

But I am suspcious in 2 ways:
1. this is the cheapest car repair I've ever had. Is this becasue it was paid by GMPP and the dealer didn't want to fix all the problem(s)?
2. more importantly, I believe the rear body is still sitting TOO high. On the right side, the gap between the body and the wheel is at least 5 inch and at least 4.5 inch on the right side. Can anybody check your montana? (I know no 2 cars are the same, but it should give me some idea).

Should I go back to the dealer to fix again?

thnx!

Re: 2003 Montana - rear suspension problem

I assume you have the rear air compressor option based on your note.

On my Montana, you can diagnose the system by pressing and holding the button that turns the air compressor on. It will turn on and then shut off. Release the button, and it will start a diagnosis. It take about 5-10 minutes I think. It basically jacks the car all the way up, then release the air and flash codes.

I don't have the specifics with me right now, but I can get them if you run the test and get a flashing code.

Does it come on and jack up the rear end when you load it?

By the way, it was probably cheap because all they did was reattach the linkage for the height sensor. It basicall is a rotary potentiometer mounted to the body with an arm that attaches to the rear suspension crossmember.

Let me know if you have codes....Good luck! Glen
