Grinding/rubbing noise when reversing and turning

when I reverse and turn at the same time I get a non metalic grinding type noise from under the jeep. I thought it was the brakes but it happens when turning in reverse not straight line reverse. Can someone help me figure this out. It also feels like it's dragging.THX.

Sounds like a wheel bearing.

Similar to my problem...

Check the front driveshaft bearings - the ones in the back, attached to the T-C. Check if the rubber protection is gone. You may need to replace the shaft...

It could be a front axle CV joint or the VC in the transfer case. It's weird that it only happens in reverse. I'm not ruling it out but it doesn't sound like a driveshaft problem. If your front driveshaft is out of whack or the u-joints/cv joints need replacing it would act up regardless of whether you are turning or not. Check your axle CV boots for damage and maybe search around here for some info on VCs. Both are prone to failure. With CVs you usually get a clicking noise when they start to fail.

Re: Grinding/rubbing noise when reversing and turning

I had the same problem on my 99 gc, I got a garage to put it on the hoist and the lower control arm on passenger side was installed the wrong way. The control arm should be curved away from tire on both sides.
