Air bag light

I recenetly took my 2002 LS to the dealer to have the valve cover gasket leak repaired and about three days after getting my car back the air bag light fashed for about 30 seconds and then stayed on. I don't know if it is related to the repair but sounds like it. Any clues?

The two major causes of the airbag light are
- the wiring under the driver's seat breaks (due to the seat moving everytime you get in it) which disconnects the driver position sensor
- the clockspring goes bad (the wiring under the steering wheel which allow the driver's airbag and radio controls to pass into a turning steering wheel).

both are easy to fix yourself.

It was the clock spring. It also caused the cruise control to work erraticlly.

Im having the same problem with a 2000 ls i just bought. Before I bought it we took it to a garage and they said it was the sensor under the seat, but according to the manual there is a different airbag light for that on the instrument panel. Im thinking it is the main airbag because of this light and because I cant get my cruise to work. Can anyone tell me where I can get this sensor and how to fix it myself.

there is only one light - it's on the dash and it flashes a two-digit code - for example: three flashes, then pause, then two flashes - is a LFC code of 32.

post your flashes and we'll see if we can't help.

I have been searching with no luck. My air bag light will flash 36, but it does not do it all of the time. It's been doing it today, but did not do it all weekend. Last week, it flashed "36" the entire week. Two weeks before that, not a single flash.

Any ideas?

There are multiple meanings for a lamp fault code (LFC) 36. To narrow down which of the 4 or 5 potential meanings, you will need to use a professional scan tool to read the Body Code. All meanings though focus around the driver's air bag. Chances are pretty good since you mention the fault appears to be intermittant that the root issue is the clockspring.

Can anybody tell me what code "37" is? It blinks the sequence twice before my light stays on permanent. It even does it when the seat is disconnected.

Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 37 refers to a problem with the passenger side airbag circuit. This most likely would not be a problem with the clock spring, but rather a problem with a connector to the passenger side airbag. The LFC 37 could be high resistance, low resistance, short to battery, or short to ground. To narrow down which of these it is, you'd need a scan tool that can read the SRS ECU codes. A high resistance circuit would give the same indication as an open circuit (ie: connector under the seat disconnected).

Update:
I have since reinstalled the seat. The plug and wires appear in good shape and that seat rarely moves. I disconnected the battery for over 10 mins. to clear the code as well.
I also have a subscription to ALLDATA for the car as well ( I'll be glad to look up any codes, etc. for anybody). According to their instruction (step#2 for every scenario) you have to deactivate the system, which requires special equipment (Airbag simulater and seat belt tensioners?) Is there anything else I can check???

My 2002 Lincoln LS just started doing the same thing. The airbag light flashes 3 times...then pauses....then flashes two times....then pauses. It goes through that sequence twice and then goes solid.

I checked the wire connections under the driver seat and everything seems secure. Any ideas?

LFC 32 indicates Driver's airbag resistance high, which is most likely due to a faulty clockspring in the steering column.

This code has been addressed on the forum before. If you have questions on details for the clockspring replacement, please search the forum first.

My light is off. The problem was a chaffed wire inside the seat itself.
I am unsure if this is safe and/or correct, but this is how I did it.

Instructions:
1. Move seat all the way forward.
2. DISCONNECT BATTERY.
3. WAIT 10 MINS.
4. Unsnap seat back left and right at bottom edge
5. Slide seat back down about 2" and then out.
6. Unhook white plastic pieces on right near seatbelt.
7. Unsnap the bottom cap.
8. Gently fold back material to reveal the foam and airbag. It is located above center of seat.
9. Trace wire running through metal bracket.

At that point, the grommet was pulled out on my seat, and slightly past there, was the wire was chaffed. Good luck and thank you to all for helping me.
