The solonoid contacts inside the starter have worn down unevenly. Sometimes they connect, sometimes they don't. Replace the starter.

Re: 99 isuzu rodeo starting prob

I have a '01 Rodeo with Auto Tranny and it has a similar starting problem. When I turn the ignition to on, it would click once and will not start. If I leave the ignition key to on and shift from park to any other positions (reverse, drive, etc) and back to park, then it would start. I have to shift before the car can start. Does anyone have a similiar problem?
