1993 Accord - problem starting,engine,D4 light

Hi
I have a honda accord 1993 and 85 K on it. I am having a starting problem when the weather is cold ( arounf 32 F) , I have to try 4/5 times then it starts. The engine check light comes on and D4 indicator blinks. I have to press on gas for 1 min or so , then turn it off . Restart it , it runs fine (no engine light or D4 light). If I park the car in the parking lot for about 8/9 hours then the problem re appears .

When the weather is not so cold the car has no problems!!!!!!

Can somebody help Please to find the cause.....

Thanks in advance
Tupun

D4 blinking is a TCU issue. Does D4 blink even when the shifter is not in D4? If the ECU light comes on, a code is stored in memory indicating why it came on. If the light goes off it means the problem went away, but the orginal reason it came on is still stored.

Thanks a lot, yes D$ blinks when in parking also. The engine ckeck also shows at the same time. I have to drive the car for 1/2 mins . then restart and both lights goes away

considering the harsh temperature where you live, have you recently bought a new battery. if it is pretty old the car will take longer to start. the proper cold cranking amps will help in the cold weather. now with the shift light blinking, you can do either two things or both. have your tranny flushed and your radiator flushed as well. i had the same problem arise in my 92 lx and it fixed the problem. it is scary to see that light flash but turning off the car and giving it a few seconds to reset itself is all it takes. Before you start it up just turn on the accessory lights and see if it blinks or not. the relay is for the fuel pump and the bushings getting deformed in high temps because it is under the dash (the hottest part in the cab)

oh forgot on more thing. with the starting problem, it is possible that your ignition wires could be swelling, and the ignitor could have enough wear and tear on them to be affected by the cold and are not getting enough juice to fire the engine

So did you fix the problem? If so, what is that fixed it?
