Do these work? It's supposed to move the air in a circular motion. Of course, when air is moved/pushed it condenses, thus making it colder. Does it really 'twist' the air though? Is it worth it? Anyone got one? Thanks!

I hope you noticed that was for the N/T spyders only. I doubt they do much. Maybe 1-2 hp.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
I was just asking in general. It doesnt seem to hard to make em neither.

I've heard good reviews(sometimes) about those in trucks but never heard about someone putting one in a car before. It sounds like that cyclone thing which doesn't work at all...

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
The clyclone is a little blade 'fan' actually blocking up the intake pipe. The spacer itself has grooves that make the air then spin. There is nothing blocking the airflow.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
I dont think they do anything. That just on the outside and would probably just cause more turbulence than spin. The turbulence may help, but I wouldnt think it would help you out at all.

I can't imagine how that would help. Spacers on carburetors are to give the A/F more time to mix and more time for the fuel to completely atomize. And then their whole "vortex" idea will get diffused as soon as it makes the 90-degree turn into the intake runners. The only benefit I can see is that it would use Bernoulli’s principal to draw in more air. But you could just get your throttle body ported for less than that price and it would have more of an effect. That's just my two cents.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
my friend had one of those on his neon before he turbo'd it. he claimed he noticed a difference in performance...and it also sounded like a turbo spooling when he accelerated.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
that won't do a god damn thing, you can't cool air by spinning it and compressing air RAISES its temperature, not lowers it.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
MAking air condense makes it colder. By spinning it, it does condense the air... thus making it colder.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
dude, did you never take 11th grade chemistry?
First of all, you can't "condense" air by spinning it. Consensing something means taking the water out of it, spinning air doesn't take the water out of it. Compressing air increases the temperature, its called "ideal gas law" look it up.

This is the formula for the ideal gas law. P V = n R T P = pressure V = volume n = number of gas molecules T = temperature R = universal gas constant So if we rewrite the equation PV ----- = T nR You can see that an increase in Pressure will increase Temperature

This is what I know from doing research on Intake Manifolds. Was looking at getting an aftermarket one. Did a lot of research of how air works when flowing and all.
The aftermarket IMs (the ones that are totally smooth), don't do anything for N/A cars that don't push out a lot of hp because the insides are totally smooth. The stock IMs are rough and bumpy. This is pursposely made like that so the air flowing through them bounce off the little grooves and bumps, making it move slower, but it gets denser and colder. The smooth pipes allow the air to free flow right through 'as is'. I would imagine it's kind of the same with the spacer. Here, it does have grooves specifically designed to rotate the air. As the air is now moving even more, it would then bounce even harder off the little bumps and grooves of the IM, making it colder as it flows then into the engine. Also with the 'twist' design to the spacer, the air (theroritically) spins in a vortex so the air is being pulled in faster to the engine. The bumps of the IM will still slow it down, but the air is flowing faster in the first place. I'm no science major, but from the research I've done, this is what I've seen. Not being a dick, just posting what I've seen.

Re: TB Spacers / Twisters
The bumps are there to make the air churn around more so the fuel gets more evenly mixed, not so that it gets colder. I am willing to bet those shallow ass grooves arent deep enough and the spacer isnt long enough to get the air to spin, they will act just like big versions of those bumps in the intake manifold. So yes, it may help (very little if any) to have that spacer but it wont be because of spinning the air, it will be because the air was given more bumps to go around to give it more turbulence to better atomize the fuel.
