New ABS Recall

I took mine in last week and they said my wheel speed sensors were so corroded, there was no bother in even trying to clean them off. He said he was surprised they even functioned. They threw two new ones on for me and sent me on my way. Anyone have any that were cleanable?

Mine were also replaced. No comment on the level of corrosion.

Angry Use Caution

I received my recall notice several weeks ago.
I was aware of the problem but didnt think it was a safty issue until I pulled into a rest area, braked to slow down, then as I was just about into a parking spot the ABS went off and I hit the curb and bounced over and stoped on the sidewalk.
Onlookers must have thought I was drunk at 10 am.
Thank God no one was walking in front of me!
I needed to share this as I never thought this could happen to me.
I live in Michigan and have 37,000 miles on my 01.
I will try to take a photo of mine and post if they were replaced or cleaned.

Gee, I must have missed the news. Anybody have the link to the information on the ABS recall?

Thanks

I called them a month ago and they didn't know about it.But i almost crapped myself the other day because i almost hit another car.I was slowing down and my brakes were jumpy like abs had kciked on.So friday i was trying to call them, and never got incontact with the person that does the recall stuff. Is there a print out i can get on the internet and take it to them ? Because it's been happening alot more lately.I Reported the same problem a year ago when i was under the warranty and they charge me 120 bucks to inspect my brakes, Do you think i can get my money back for that ?

I dont know if you can get your cash back.

I am going to send my truck in for the 13 time for abs, water leak in the doors, and a bad dist cap.

with the problems that i have been having with this truck. I wish I would of rebuilt the motor in the old truck and keep it till the frame rotted apart. at least i could get the locks to unlock when the weather changed from hot to cold. it did not squeal like a stuck pig every time the weather got cold eather.

it sucks when the temp goes to 32f out i got to take a hair dryer to the doors to get in the truck.

There were 2 Campaigns that came out.
04094 -- Front Wheel Speed Sensor Corrosion (canadian vehicles)

05068 -- FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION for 1999-2002 GMT 800 series trucks
This campaign came out on Sept 23,2005
The 05068 is for certain trucks that fall within designated VIN breakpoints and locations.
If your vehicle is involved, GM has sent you a notice. As long as your vehicle is registered with a state motor vehicle commision GM has your address.
If you did not recieve a notice, you can call your local GM dealer and ask them to run a VIS on your VIN number to see if your vehicle is involved.
REMEMBER...NOT ALL VEHICLES ARE INVOLVED IN THE CAMPAIGN

Since you live in Florida, your vehicle is not covered in the campaign.

That's the main problem I see with them recalling only northern trucks. The coastal states can and do cause nearly the same amount of corrosion as what goes on up north.

I havea silly question, If i take in there and say my abs is coming on when i'm slowing down, and i said the samething last year on the work order, when they charge me to inspect my brakes for problem. Will they fix it for free? Or will they say they can't. Last year when they was done inspecting it , it went away. It didn't do it anymore. But recently it's been happening alot in the past month. So i'm thinking they must have accidently cleaned off the sensor of the dirt and it went away.how bout this, I lie to them and say I took a few trips to some state up north in the winter time ,do you think they will replace it for free ?

I guess if i run into someone and it's because of ABS , I'll just tell them to put that into the police report and just sue GM so my insurance don't go up ? You think that would work ? there was some close calls.

Though it use to be alot worst with the ABS system last year, last year you would lose the the whole brakes for a good few secs because the brakes padel would jerk up and down. It's still doing the same but not as violent as it use to before i took it in.

Re: Re: New ABS Recall

mine is not covered in the campaign, its a 2004 shortbed, with manual trany.

all i can get the mechs to do is pulg in the reader and say, there are no codes so its working fine.

heck the last time my truck was in for the shuttering that feels like your going to slam in to the stearing wheel. I had to keep the keys in my pocket and then tell the guy your not getting the keys till I drive you around the block. 10 miles latter he was white. dorve him out of town and up to speed so it would do the shuter. then let him drive back and he missed a few stop signs. then thay still could not find any thing wrong.
