Re: Engine removal need help

I believe you have to lift the car up to free up the tension from the axles to the tranny since you'll have to remove the two front wheels and separate the axles from the transmission. Support the car on the frame along the side of it using actual stands not just the jack. And don't leave your engine on it's oil pan or it may mess it up. Use a pallette or make some kind of wooden box to hold it so it's not flush on the floor. GL

Re: Engine removal need help

ZC should bolt up. I'm not familiar with the d14, but if the tranny is a dx 5-speed you shouldn't have any issues. Are you carbed? I believe the ZC came carbed overseas but not sure.

Re: Engine removal need help

Well, the ZC will work... But researching the engine, its currently carbed... So youll have to convert to MPFI... Or find a ZC that is also carbed... Being from Europe/UK (according to the specs those are the only places this engine was released) you may have other engines that are better suited to swap in tho... For instance, Ive never heard of that engine (D14A1), I had to research it... There may be others you can use more easily...

As for pulling your engine... Its easy... Jack up the front just enough to get under there, dosnt have to be too high... Put it on jack stands, and then get a cherry picker (engine hoist), once you have everything unhooked and all fluids drained, hook the hoist up to the rear of the engine on the timing chain side (in the US its the drivers side, but not sure about your car), youll see a hole for a bolt on the rear of the cylinder head, and on the transmission somewhere (I think I used the hole for the clutch cable bracket)... Make sure the bolts you use arent weak, and are bolts you dont need anymore, because the weight may bend them... Lift the hoist a bit enough to place tension on the chain... Undo the engine mounts... And then carfully lift the enging out of the bay... You may need some help to do it, like someone cranking on the hoist while you guide the engine out... But its really easy...

Also as for resting the engine, a pallet with an old tire on top of it, and set the oil pan on the tire... Thats the best thing you can do to protect it, plus the pallet makes it easy to move around...

Re: Engine removal need help

No No... keep the 5 speed. But honestly, you should really think about the engine your going to use. I've just read that converting a carbed to mpfi for zc swap is "a labor of love" and "you really have to love your car" to do it. I'm willing to bet that carbs can be modded to fit a ZC but how is beyond me.

Re: Engine removal need help

ZC is 1.6 dohc. You should really think about the whole carb to mpfi though cuz it's probably just as tedious as an engine swap if not more so. I wish I knew where to find some carb info. Think about it. Right now you have a 1.4 with dual side draft carbs pushing what 90hp? It takes the a 1.6 with dpfi to make that maybe and mpfi with slightly more aggressive cam and fuel map is 108hp. Think about how much power you'd make if you could tune those carbs to run properly on a 1.6 with 2 cams.

Re: Engine removal need help

Actually, that 107-109 is for the brown top zc or d16a9 which came in our 87 integras. It's totally different than the "jdm ZC" that came in the JDM CRX Si.

If you buy that engine, you can go from there.

An older Honda mechanic nearby use to race a trunked hatchback 1.nothing ccvc in the drag strip because back then tuning carbs were the shit. Bisi Ezerioha still races carbs in his crx. I'm not sure what engine he's currently using but he is bad ass cuz he's a chemist and can formulate the proper mixture to make his engine scream. Check out this article...Bisi
