Stupidest Ticket! This one made the book!

This is a joke! I had installed a pair of (NEON BLUE) PIAA Licence Plate LED Light bulbs on my rear of my plates for 3 years... no one ever pull me over.

Today, a stupid f#cking COP had nothing better to do and pull me over... give me a ticket for $110.00.. saying I shouldn't had a blue color light at the back of my LICENCE PLATE... I mean it isn't a brake light... it is LICENCE PLATE LIGHT!

I told him I didn't know it is not allow, and I will take it off when I get home... but no that is not good enough for him...

He wrote me a ticket, then tell me go to Brampton Court house say you didn't know it is illegal and you should be all right!

What the f#ck is that? So, I called the lady on the phone trying to made an appointment... but no, I have to wait a week until the ticket actually put into the system!

It's about time cops start cracking down on rice

j/k

Just take the bulbs out, and when you go to court tell her that you were unaware that they were illegal and upon recieving the ticket, you went home and promptly replaced them with factory spec replacements and they should throw it out.

Brampton, Ontario, Canada??

Yeah, the 22 Division there has a reputation for being very tough, perhaps excessively so.

Still, blue lights are reserved for municipal snow removal equipment and snow plows only.

The cop over reacted a bit. IMO a warning was all thats necessary.

So I should read up all 3000 Highway traffic Act before I start my car?

Do you know how many people driving with this stuffs in Toronto? They get blue headlight, blue turn signal light!

I got this lights from a local automotive shop! If this is illegal why they allow to import this from Japan and sell this? There is no warning in the packages because it is all in Japanese!

I was inside the shop 2 years ago and asked the guy is this illegal, and the guy tell me it is only illegal when you put that on brake light or signal lights!

2 small light in the licence plate! WOW! I really can cause an accident with it! Because people will mistake I am a snow Pow! in middle of July!

I driving with this lights for 2 to 3 years, no cops give a damn in Scarborough, Toronto.

What crazy are, when this idiot cop give me the ticket. He suggested me to call the court and arrange a meeting and tell them I didn't know it is illegal and he inducated to me that I will usually get off that way.... so WHY is he given me a ticket? I already told him I will remove it when I get home!

it might be a good idea to ask any cop friends you might have about any and all lighting mods on your car. i have a friend that has been ticketed for interior neons that were blue. i guess ignorance really isnt an excuse but these laws about lighting mods on cars are different in every state and sometimes city and they leave alot to the judgement of individual officers.

Schister, this section is for advice on traffic accidents/violations/regulations...not for bashing cops. They are doing their jobs, and they are human too. Granted there are some bad ones, but there are some good ones too, just like any other profession. If they pull you over, most of the time it is because you are breaking the law. So while you are entitled to your own opinions, I will not tolerate ignorant blanket-statements bashing or belittling the police. Find somewhere else to rant and rave.

LOL . Oh btw i dont know any of the laws of canada. However in MA, USA u cant have blue lights because they are considered Police colors. If a kid has blue lights around here he usually gets pulled over. The reason being is sometimes kids will use the blue lights to pull people over or get traffic to move(blue storbes). Thats why its cracked down on.

I don't know what you talking about... This is a 5W wedge bulbs that on top of the licence plate at the REAR of the car! Do you know how much light you can get for a 5W wedge bulbs? It is just enough to light up your licence plate... and you have to tailgate me to know the color is blue!

This is not a BIG FASHING Beacon on top of a 747! If you can mistaken that to a police car... man... go see a doctor!

hmmm.........you didn't express your feeling this way to the cop, did you?

Be aware, that if this was late at night, this may have been an excuse to pull you over and give you a quick sniff to make sure you had not been drinking, your car wasn't stolen, you didn't have the police chiefs daughter inside, etc. It's happened to me.

The point is that they are not interested in your lights. They are looking for more serious problems. However, if you gave them attitude about the lights, they are more likely to issue a ticket for them than if you just said "I'm so sorry, it'll never happen again"

As for the size for the light; this may be before your time, but a popular customizing trick from the 1950's were called 'blue dots' where a tiny blue/purple lens (1/4 inch dia) is inserted in the red stop-light lens.
When placed in the right spot, it glows blue.
These blue dots got tickets all the time years ago, and they are even smaller than your blue lights.
People still install blue dots these days, but they don't get many tickets because these people are now 50+++ years old and have a good attitude about the cops.

No this is not late at night... it is 7:05 A.M. in the morning... I just happen to left my lights on... And I pass the cop on the left... then he followed me for a while before pulled me over.

And no, I didn't gave him an attitude.... I just told him, I don't know it is illegal and I told him I will remove it when I get home.... and Yes, he is trying to look for more serious problems... and he couldn't find any! May be because I am driving an Acura!

He gave me the ticket, and suggested I can go to the Court House and tell them I don't know it is illegal... So I am thinking that he just wanted to write a ticket to fill his quota for the week!

Re: Stupidest Ticket! This one made the book!

OK! here's a little tip when buying aftermarket parts for your car. It's the same thing with buying bongs/pipes. Ever read the whole package??? Somewhere on there it will say "legal for off-road and show use only." or something like "check local regulations before installation." Just because it's illegal to smoke weed doesn't mean that you can't buy a bong, just like it's illegal to have blue lights on your car(in the US atleast) doesn't mean that you can't buy them. Smarten up, don't play the stupid card in cases like that "well you can buy them, so why can't i use them??" Cops don't like hear this kind of thing. Peace-

May be you should READ what I just said! This package is from PIAA Japan! It is all in Japanese!

So, I can now sell CRACK? All I have to do is put a warning in the package saying this may not "legal in your states or your country"?

Beside, the cops tell me the light had to be white... it doesn't matter it is blue, green, red or orange!

Well, cops look out for what they consider to be unusual driving behaviour so I guess the cop did not like to be passed.

As for telling you to go to the Brampton court house and tell them you didn't know it was illegal.........this seems a little bizarre to me that the cop would suggest this.

I know Brampton, and the courthouse is interested in taking your money for the fine or having you plead not guilty ands set a court date.

Its up to a judge to decide to let it go, or the crown attourney to decide not to go to court if you plead not guilty.

IMO follow through on the cops advice. The court may have some agreement to not follow through on minor equipment infractions if they are already corrected, to keep the courts from getting too backed up.
