Weird cam gear problem!!

Has anybody ever had a d series motor do this. The cam gear is moving (spinning with timing belt) but the cam doesn't spin?? Everything is still tight, the cam gear doesn't wobble or anything. Going to pull apart here in a couple days. I'm guessing the set pin on the cam gear itself broke somehow - just sound weird.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

Man, if the cam gear and crank are spinning with out the cam moving your valves are screwed hardcore! If tt is indeed doing that, then yes it sounds like the woodruff pin is destroyed.

You won't know till you pull it off though.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

um, if you crank your motor over, and the cam didnt spin, you could have bent some valves...

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

Hey The Motor Is An Interferance Motor. It Sound Like Your Cam Has Locked Up And That You Have Stripped The Pin Or Keyway In The Cam. Pull The Cam Gear Off And You Will See The Damage Pin/keyway.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

If That Happened It Will Be Easier/cheaper To Get A Full Head Off Ebay And Replace The Head.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

Dude...

Pull off your cam gear and tell me if it looks like this...

They are interference motors.... So, yeah... At least one or two bent valves. The picture is from my d15a3, but the same pricinple should apply. Check your oil jet... Mine had a foreign object get stuck in the cam journal and freeze the camshaft, causing the end of it to sheer off... More than likely, your either just missing the key, or you need a new cam and gear... So.. Good luck, though.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

This is from a 3rd gen civic 4dr (not mine luckily). Does anybody have an extra head and/or cam gear? I'm thinking I'm going to need one. I believe it's the d15a3 motor from an 87 4dr.

Re: Weird cam gear problem!!

Like I said... It will probably look just like my picture.... That is the same motor you are talking about. I don't have a spare one, but I picked up the cam for just over $100, and the cam gear is like $15 from Honda.. My dad had to order a new one for my brother...
