99 Cirrus Check Engine Light Stays one..

I tried to disconnect the battery to see if the computer would reset something.

I just followed the book, It said to just disconet the negative ground on the in the engine and connect the negative to the wheel well via the little plastic hook.

Well I did the, the CEL was off untill I put it in gear. What is crazy is all of the radio stations are still programmed so the power was not cut like the book said..

The darn thing runs perfect. Any one have this issue?

PS. I too have the issue where the oil light comes on when low RMP idle at a red light.. Strange car indeed..

Thanks All

Chuck

Have you had it tested/diagnosed on a machine? Most auto parts stores will do this for free or for a very low cost if you don't want to deal with pressure from a mechanic.

I have a 1997 Cirrus and my Check Engine light is always on for some reason intermittently. I have managed to link it to my gas cap not being tight enough on a few occasions.

Usually whenever I bring it in for my mechanic (for other reasons) he runs the machine on it just in case, figures out what is wrong and just tells me, "It's some sensor, but nothing is wrong with the part. If you want to pay $100 some dollars to replace the sensor, be my guest, but the part probably has at least [insert years here] left on it."

I would try to find out what it is, and then just buy some black electrical tape if it the light bothers you. Or put a picture of a loved one over it. Check Engine lights are not as useful as they should be.

the check engine ligth turns on normally when the mass air flux sensor or the oxigen sensor detects a failure, you donīt necessary need to replace the sensors, try a tune up first be sure the air filter are the fabric specified.
