Exclamation 88 Mustang 5.0 HO LX 5 speed tranny Question Please Help

ok I have an 88 Ford Mustang 5.0 High Output LX 5 Speed.

I just bought this car off of a friend 2 weeks ago and 1st 2nd and reverse grinded but unless I pushed the clutch pedal very hard to the floor and put it into gear rather smoothly it wouldn't grind, so anyways I went on the highway of 290 to get to my girlfriends house and the car ran smoothly... later on that day going back on the highway to get home it drove ok, but as soon as I got off the highway the shifting was a little rough then it was difficult to put it in gears, so I then just left it in 2nd gear all the way home (this was after I got off the highway) and my house wa only about 3minutes away so 2nd gear to my house didnt bother me, wanted to be safe then sorry, so anyways the 1st thing I thought was the clutch cable may have been stretched, which in fact was a little stretched and a little ripped up, so I replaced it and thought it would fix my problem, but it didn't... the problem is still there, I can literally push the clutch pedal to the floor and try putting it into gear and when I do throw it into gear even with the pedal down in goes into gear.... a buddie of mine said it was the pressure plate causing the problem, so I order one, which arrives tomorrow so Im hoping this is going to fix my problem.... does anyone have any Ideas as to what the problem is or is my friend right about the pressure plate... Please help, Im new to Mustangs but love them to death.. Thanks guy's.. Later

Re: 88 Mustang 5.0 HO LX 5 speed tranny Question Please Help

Ok so check it out... I took the tranny off only to find a descent size chunk ripped off from the cluch right about one of the springs, I know have to get a whole clutch kit, and I believe I need to replace the fly-wheel as well because I looked at the clutch and there appeared to be some uneven wear which brings me to the conclusion that the fly-wheel may be warped or what not.... Any one have any suggestions or Imput or Ideas about this... I can really use the advice, but no one has answered me yet and I'd greatly appreciate any input to this matter... Thanks guy's ;-)

Dude i have the same problem. You can put it into gear just fine when the car is off but not on. Its pretty shitty but glad to hear that you found that out when you took it apart. I have yet to take mine apart but I do have a whole new clutch kit to put in but was wondering if i should bother or just get a new tranny. Just the only gear that grinds on mine is second you have to drop it in slow like wait for the car to rev back down. But hey have you replaced the clutch yet and how did that work out for you?
