Regal GS tires

Recently purchased Buick Regal GS 2000. Very happy with vehicle. Just bought rims and tires for the winter but I will be looking for some summer tires very soon. The summer tires (225-60-16) are mounted on the original mags, but are worn out. Can I fit a wider tire ie.50 series on these mags and can anyone suggest good tires? Thanks

Re: Regal GS tires

Actually, the 50 series is shorter than the 60 series not wider. If you want to try a wider tire, go with the 245-50-16. (shorter & wider) Try one first on the front and see if it will turn side to side without hitting the fenderwell. The back should clear.

Hot Z28 is right. The 50 or 60 means the percentage of the width of the tire. A 50 series has 50% of the tires width as the height, etc. I bought a regal GS for my kid. Real nice ride, but the rims are only 6” wide so it limits the size of the tire that will fit. Not sure if you can go as wide as a 245 60/16. It may not fit the rim and if it does, the high offset of the wheel may cause it to rub on the inside fender wells when making turns.

I agree the stock 16" wheel which is 6.5" in width does not have the proper offset to run 245 tires and may rub. The other problem with running a lower aspect ratio such as 50 series is you will have speedometer error unless you go to 17 inch wheels to compensate. When speedo reads 65 mph, it will actually be going around 62.6 mph. The diameter should be matched as close as possible to what stock (225/60-16) has, I believe around 26.63".
