Brakes and passenger side sliding door

Back in June of this year I had the axle shaft, wheel bearing and spindle replaced on the passenger side front and every since that day (I mean from the frist time I applied my brakes after leaving the garage) it feels like they are grabbing or that the ABS is coming on every time. We have taken off the wheel and apart the brakes and there is some play, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, with the router. I can "push" thru this grabbing and the brakes feel normal again but this this is happening consistently. The ABS light comes on and just recently the parking brake light as well. It seems that while these light are on, my brakes work fine. Any ideas on what is causing this?

My passenger side sliding door seems to be making noise like it is rattling or loose but cannot locate any loose parts which would cause this. If I grab hold of the handle on the outside, I am able to lift the door up approximately 1/2 to 1 inches. Is this normal or is this my problem?

Any info on either problem would be greatly appreciated.

From your profile it says that you have a 96. There shouldn't be any "play" inbetween the rotor and pads. The caliper should release from the rotor but not a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. It sounds like your caliper is sticking and then releasing.

I would have pulled right back into the garage and said "the brakes were fine when I brought the van in and now they're doing this:......."

The ABS and Brake light may come on when there is a error brake system. Your ABS wheel sensor may of not been plugged back in, the wiring to it may of been damaged when the hub was replaced or the sensor may be damaged.

It doesn't sound like your van was test driven after the repair. I don't know how long the shop you took it too will stand behind their work, but I'd bring it back. You shouldn't have to fix a probem brought on by a shop fixing anohter problem that you paid for.

As for the door....???someone would have to look at it, listen, and then go from there.

Regards

Dan

I am with LeSabre on the brake scenario, as any reputable garage/ service company should stand behind the work they performed. I have a 96 Windstar as well and had the rattling door scenario last year. I found my problem existed because it was the molded plastic door alignment pin in the lower passenger frame/pillar post,(behind the front passenger seat) that had been broken. It has one visual screw/bolt head and the other is a flat facebolt. One of the Manufacturers..grrr... infinite wisdom bolting processes, as you have to go inside the pillar to get at the other side of the nut to take out. Which means you have to pull off the plastic floor trim from the sliding door and the passenger door(straight up), slide the passenger seat forward fully, undo any screws that are holding the pillar plastic trim in place, pop off the trim straight inwards towards the cabin area from the bottom first and attempt to get access, without pulling it off fully, As, then your into the seat belt/harness restraint, sliding doorway light harness, etc. And unscrew the second bolt and replace...I looked at wreckers for the part but low and behold they were all broken except one! Good luck, if this is the going concern on yours! FYI mines snapped again and waiting until it breaks right off or the rattling bugs me enough.grrr...
