98 accord v6 transmission
ok everyone i am not that good in cars but i know a few things, i have a problem maybe someone out there can help
i have a 98 accord v6 sedan Automatic, and the cars in great shape for the mileage (120K) and im going to keep it for a few more years but the transmission is going, i want to rebuild it but it costs way too much, some places want $1,800 and the cheapest i found was $1,200 to rebuild, i was thinking i kind of want a manual transmission i heard that the Acura legend from 87-92 has a transmission that fits the 98 accord v6 engine pretty damn good, but what else has to be done, cause i cant do this myself so i buy the transmission and then what ?? do i need the shifter assembly?? if so from where or what ?? or do i need a different transmission computer........?? i just need to know if i can swap it to a manual transmission and if it will cost less than 1,000. if it costs over the price of the rebuild then i dont want to waste my time, but if it doesnt cost up to 1,200 then exactly what do i need?? and what do i need to do?? if anyone can help i would appreciate it thank you. |

Re: 98 accord v6 transmission
I don't think the price is out of line at all. What someone else got their (different) car fixed for in a different area doesn't mean a thing. Also, there are HUGE differences between a shade tree mechanic at one end of the scale and a dealership at the other (not that I'd recommend either of those!)
If you are "not that good in cars" an auto to manual switch is NOT trivial. Remember a stick has a clutch, an automatic doesn't. So you're changing a LOT more than just the transmission. If you can get the rebuild for anything under $1500 FROM SOMEWHERE YOU TRUST - get it. |
