525i shift well console plate replacement

can anyone help with access to the auto shift well on my 525 E34 center console to replace the plate which blocks the mechanism from falling debris from the front seat area. May be called a "base"./ Mine is rumpled and scrunched in both directions. I don't want to start tearing up the console...I know there must be a solution...maybe not simple but a solution nonetheless.
