Question CAI for Spyder GS?

Hey guys got a few more questions regarding my ’98 Spyder GS. I’ve been looking around for a CAI for my car but no one seems to sell a CAI for the 4g64 spyder engine. I did come across this intake (see this) though.

Question 1: Is this a good company to buy from?

Question 2: Will I be able to put my filter (K&N) that came off my ’96 eclipse gs intake (420A engine) onto this pipe? I.E. does the Weapon-R pipe have the same outer diameter as the CAI for the 420A engine?

Question 3: Looking at my stock setup, I see a box thing attached to the top of the current stock intake. If I leave this off will my performance be affected? I’m thinking it’s some sort of air intake sensor. If this is the case, it seems that I would not want to remove it. So, how could I attached it to the Weapon-R intake if I decided to buy it?

Thanks

DO NOT GET CAI !! my friend blow up his engine cause, he such alot of water into his engine, just get a cheap pipe(short ram) and throw in k&n filter, and you ready to go.

Re: CAI for Spyder GS?

that sensor is the MAF, yes, you need it, and the Weapon R intake will probably accomodate it no problem.

Yes, you should be able to use the same filter as you did on your 420A intake.

Thanks for the responses. Hehe, I've had no problems with the CAI on my '96 eclipse. Then again, I don't pretend my car is a Hummer Your friend should've installed a simple bypass valve which would've routed the water away from the engine.

I had a feeling that box was the MAF. I guess I could always give that Weapon-R intake a shot. Worse comes to worse, I'll get out some tools and mod it to make everything fit nicely.

Re: CAI for Spyder GS?

I would advise you to make your own intake or buy one from ebay. These $160 are exatly the same as ant other no brand knock offs except they have some chrome printed name on em. I wouldnt waste money on trying to make a Spyder fast since its hard to find parts for them at all. You can spend money on making it look nice. Spyders in my opinion are for show but not that much for speed. You might wanna buy wires and intake, maybe a not so loud exhaust but dont start wasting money on making it fast since in the end it you will see its a waste of money.

Re: CAI for Spyder GS?

He can make one himself. Also Thor6 can make one if he is willing and maybe has an idea of the Spyders engine bay.

These are all good points. I didn't really look at the price of the intake. I was just happy to find one at all. But making it myself would probably be the better option.

As for the comments about making my Spyder faster, well, I'm actually not as concerned with making it faster as I am with increasing gas mileage. When I put my CAI on my '96 eclipse I was seeing about a 2-4 MPG increase in my gas mileage (I was averaging 33 MPG). I'm kinda hoping it will do the same with the Spyder (which is averaging 29 MPG right now).
