Angry JGCL '93 alarm system locks engine randomly

I bought my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited used two years ago. little did i know that i would experience such tremendous problems with the faulty non-functional security system. About one year ago the security system began to randomly and spiradically go off when i would enter my car. There was no method to the madness. Sometimes it would be once a month sometimes twice a week. But when the security system goes off the engine locks and despite what the manual says about getting out of the car, and pressing the door lock/door unlock button on my keyless entry the engine still was locked. i have to call for a ride to pick me up and go back and try to restart it. this also is random. sometimes the engine will start and turn over 2 hours after the security meltdown. yet sometimes it takes two or three days to disarm the security. in the meantime i am left without a car. the engine is great on my car, the car will start for 2 seconds and then shut off all because of the needless security system!!! what can i do??? i took it to the jeep dealership and they are clueless.

Hey. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for an hour or so, then letting the alarm "reset" itself after it "locks" up? If that works, check all connections that set off alarm, doors, hood, hatch, one of them is shorting. If battery disconnect doesn't work, try getting an aftermarket "factory alarm bypass module" that is made for aftermarket alarms and remote starter. Hook this up according to manufacturer's directions and you should be good. If THAT doesn't work, see your friendly neighborhood alarm installer/sound guy. They know these wiring systems and alarm hook ups better than anyone at a dealership. Good Luck Bro'!!

I would also recommend disconnecting the ground cable on the battery for a few minutes. IMMEDIATLY after hooking the cable back up, put your key in any exterior lock, and turn the key as if your unlocking the door. There are sensors in the doors that sense the key being turned. This disables the alarm system. Now start the engine. If it continues after this, you may have an electrical problem or a faulty alarm module. Your not the only one who goes through this.......

how old is the battery? I've seen this happen many of times on Chrysler security alarms and the problem was always a weak battery. Sure you alternator may put out 14V, but the state of charge of the battery will determine if it starts up or not. If it's more than 3 years old, replace it. Even if your battery is fairly new, I've seen defective batteries causing the exact same problem that you describe.
