Question heating vents 1 and 2 don't work

O.K.

Here is the car 2000 Grand Am Se coupe 2.4

Yesterday my car would not start and the security light was flashing, well after about 15 mins I tried my command start, then it started, and it have been starting no problem with both the key and command start since then, this was probaly the passlock system that I have been hearing about.

So yesterday I drive home and now my vents only blow air when it is set to 3, 4, or 5. 1 and 2 do nothing.

Any body have any ideas this is annoying as its noisy to have it on three all the time and if I turn it to 2 (off) I freeze in -30 c Canadian Winter.

Thanks a lot

Re: heating vents 1 and 2 don't work

Your fan motor blower-resistor has gone bad. You're going to need to buy one from a place like autozone and replace it.

1) Resistor is located next to firewall on passenger side, in part of the blower motor plastic housing assembly, on the downside part of the assembly that is toward the passenger's feet.

2) To get to it, you will need a 7/32 " socket. You will need a universal socket adapter.

3) You will need to open the passenger door, and lay on your left hip with your upper torso on the passenger floor.

4) Look up toward the fire wall. LOOK UP! You will see wires feeding the resistor via a connector. You will see two bolts holding the resistor in the housing.

5) That's the resistor.
