why do i have wheel hop?

so, after my engine and tranny swap + clutch install, when the car is warmed up, the clutch gets grippy, and when taking off from a stop, not launching, just normal driving, if the revs are too low, it sounds like a monkey is jumping up and down in my hatch. ive learned to drive it, however, and rev it up more (~1800rpm) to take off, because ive found that slipping the clutch more makes it better.

so i thougt it was my rear subframe whacking up and down, so i bought subframe collars, put them on and... no dice, ive recently put a vlsd and aluminum drive shaft on the car, but the problem was the same before and after the swap.... so its not those, adn the diff on s13 is hard mounted to the subframe, so no motion allowed!

i just cant figure what the hell is moving back there. do the subframe bushings have to be very particularly seated on the top seat?

oh, and i have mr coilovers, adn i tried turning up the damping on the rear, and it didnt help at all...

argh
-thx

Re: why do i have wheel hop?

ummm...thats really weird becuase wheel hop is usually from your wheels spinning but not really catching traction making the tires bouce...dont know why it would do it taking off slow...but if for some reason your car blows up into a firey inferno...you should give me your wheels

Re: why do i have wheel hop?

A) Subframe collars are a band-aid, after a while the bushing will form around the collars to be just as loose as before.

B) Its prolly in the suspension link bushings.

My Exedy doesnt chatter like that but I think its slipping right now. hopefully I just have to adjust the pedal, I don't want to dig the transmission out right after I got it running.

Re: why do i have wheel hop?

well, i put it through the 1000 mile easy pace break in, just like ive heard to do, no launching or what-not. cause a friend of mine didnt, and his brand new spec stage II started slipping like 2 months after he had it put on, and im not dumb like that.

it was installed properly, and i had the flywheel resurfaced by a good shop, the wheel looked very true with a nice swirl hone.

one other thing, is anyone elses clutch creak or click when it disengages? like if i turn every thing off so i can hear well, and open the door, and push the pedal in, it makes a light click, almost like the fingers are sticking or something

thx

Re: why do i have wheel hop?

Mine pops when I release it sometimes. Freaks me out on occasion. I think I'm hearing rod knock or something.lol

I can't think of anything else that would be your problem. I had the exact same thing and it was clutch chatter. What engine/tranny mounts are you using?

Re: why do i have wheel hop?

Its NOT WHEEL HOP! In order to have wheel hop, you have to have wheelspin. Which is not happening in normal driving conditions from 1800rpm. You shouldn't really do anything special to break the clutch in other than normal daily driving for the first 300-400 miles. Unless you have a tried technique that you believe in such as SR20DETpower does. He is very expirienced in the field so chances are his method does work. For the average joe, just drive it under normal conditions for the first 300-400 miles. Also make sure and use some acetone or other agent to remove any grease from fingerprints after you tighten down the flywheel. Use a clean rag and whatever chemical you choose and wipe the contact surface well removing any fingerprints, grease, dirt ect. That can cause chatter as well.
