Angry Cant pump gas?

HELP! Purchased this car (1999) Pontiac Grand Prix approx. 3 weeks ago....they replaced the O2 sensor the day I picked it up.....approximately 3 days later I got a service engine light...and shortly after attempted to pump gas into the car, unfortunately it will only allow me to pump MAYBE a $1.00 worth of gas and it shuts the pump off like the tank is full, and I have to start the process over again, the car has been in 3 times since then, it comes up with a air flo erros, they reset the computer and send me on my way. Last week they replaced the fuel tank and yet again....the light has reappeared and i continue to not be able to fuel my car..... HELP!!!!!! Since this has occurred the car went from about 400 miles a tank of fuel to using about a 1/4 of a tank every 50 - 60 miles........

Re: Cant pump gas?

I get this problem a lot...when it pops on you and doesn't want to fill anymore, pull the nozzle out slightly, if it still does it move it around a bit. I think it has to do with the end of the nozzle touching the inside of the filler neck and thinking its full, although I could be wrong. Regardless it usually works fine within a couple trys for me.
I've noticed that it only ever happens to me at the Canadian Tire gas bars around here, any other gas station is fine...

Re: Cant pump gas?

you my have a tank vent solenoid valve that has failed. Have the car scanned to see if why the check engine light is on and post the results.

Re: Cant pump gas?

They put the car BACK on the computer this morning and its still coming up as a "vent" issue....
Yesterday upon getting on the freeway, the car started to jerk and "check engine light" was flashing, once I reached 75 mph the light went back to its normal just being on....The dealer today has suggested removing the float???
I now also have a ABS light that continues to come on after the first 15 minutes of driving, shuts off when car is shut off, and reappears again after 15 minutes of driving

Re: Cant pump gas?

Ok...the car has now been diagnosed with a Evac System error....they ordered the parts, and are saying 4-5 hours to fix. Also, ABS light is a "historical code"

Re: Cant pump gas?

I had a V6 Camaro that did that...

It did it from the day I got it until the day I sold it, oddly I just kind of accepted it and never checked into it...

When I got the gtp I was happy just to be able to set the pump and not have to fight it to get gas in my car...

The little things make the most impact, screw the boost in performance and what not, I CAN PUMP GAS!!!!

Re: Cant pump gas?

Could be the car was hit..."in the rear".......Try different gas stations and different pumps too. And try to pump slower.
