Forum Project

This is an idea I borrowed from some other sites I visited. I can tell that just about everyone here is a very skilled modeler. Utilizing the talents here, I want to do a forum project. For the first project, I will pick a general category of car (such as tuner, convertable, muscle car, etc.), and a deadline, and everyone will build a car that fits into that respective category by the deadline. Upon the deadline date, we will post links to pictures of all the models submitted. Then a vote will take place as to who has completed the best project. The winner will then select the next category for the next project. It would give a chance for everyone to focus on a particular genre that maybe they have never looked at. Also It would allow for people to share ideas and tips on creating more accurate and interesting models. Please respond with some opinions on this idea of a forum project.

Re: Forum Project

By "other sites" you mean BMC? At least be creative and call it something different.

There's already an AF Model Of The Year Contest.

Actually,not only BMC! I first found this there, but I have found others who have similar ideas. There is a modeling club at a nearby school who does this type of thing. Granted it is not online, but it is the same basic idea.

Other sites get cluttered up fast w/all the various group builds. I like the simplicity of this site w/o so many various group projects..the A/F MOTY is really the best of all of the community projects on all the boards IMHO, along w/the theme contest in the motorsports forum.

I'd suggest only trying something like that here if the subject matter is popular here and is not being done somewhere else.

Re: Forum Project

Already done - check out the Motorsports Forum. Last year it was Le Mans, this year anything that raced in the eighties. We even vote and have prizes. At the moment there is also a drag car theme/contest running too.

I guess there could be some interest in doing something similar in the Street and Show section. I like the idea the ACME members had for their local show - Street and Track, two models of the same car, one a daily driver the other a racer.

I was in a Model Club back in California a while back and we would have what they called it "an inner club contest" and what it was, A kit was picked either something that everyone wanted to do or a kit that that did not appeal to anyone. . Well we had a 6 month time to build the kit and in that time no one was to tell anyone what they were doing and you didn't get to see any ones car until the day of the contest. Its was pretty fun. I'f I remember right they juged it different'ly for example one year it was juged by a couple people in the club another it was a total people's choice at a show where there were numbers next to each car and people writing which number they liked and sticking it in a voters box... just my on this thats all.

Re: Forum Project

I feel that the topics of interest on this board are too widespread to have something of this nature be effective. Not only that but the amount of time people are pumping into the other ventures on teh board. the two contests in the motorsports section and the AFMOTY. if one were involved in all three that could be their projects all the way up until next june.

Re: Forum Project

Personal experience, most 'forum projects' are an undeniable flop.

AFMOTY on the other hand, has been a undeniable success

Re: Forum Project

I like the idea of having one of each street and race car contests in addition to the MOTY.

I can come up with something weird or obscure, like...

<street>
* manufacturers that no longer exist
* backward conversion from race cars to the showroom stock (like taking JTCC Accord and make the stock wheels and interior)
* cars from your birth year
* movie / TV cars
* concept cars
(okay, the last two aren't so common, but I just wanted to mention them.)

<race>
* teams that no longer exist
* cars that failed to qualify for a certain race

Of course, we can vote for the most popular car, make, decade, etc. (should we do 80s street car shortly after 80s race car sometime next year?)

Agree with you Hiro. At least other than MOTY contest, there can be some other contests like in the Motorsports forum.

By the way, my birthyear is 1976, any interesting cars on that year? (in model form that is)

wow: this discussion quickly give up cool
I LIKE IT SO MUCH

I want that: I'd lik to mount a race R34 with my business logo (a pork)for the virtual team new entry for '06 WGTC- rules JGTC- starting from a legal Ztune and then a legal R34 starting from the race one (gasp: decals and paint stripping also?)
Hey guys, do you imagine those? It's start to come an "art peformance" in progress: buid a race model, strip this and do a legal version, then do a legal version, strip and wide/lowered to the race kind. And only photo to remember inner steps. (also may be a little thing, like a fender with the first livery) I'm going mad for sure, may be putty's smell
