Rodeo still leaking coolant

Quick summary as I have to go to work. After changing the water pump, water pipe o-rings, timing belt, thermostat, etc., I am still getting a leak of coolant which seems to be coming from the back of the engine. Seems to leak only after heating up. I'm overheating, too, because I hear the coolant boiling. Gonna park it. I don't have the temp guage so I don't know exactly how hot it's getting. I'm going to swap the rad. What else am I missing?

Also is the rad in the 4 cyl the same as the 6?

I want to order from radiatorbarn.com, but the only option is for the 4 cyl. Any other place to get it? Thanks for all help!!

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

Got one for $207+tax at NAPA. I'm hoping that low flow through it started causing the engine to run hot and push coolant out through a weakly clamped hose. Wishful thinking? I'll let you know!

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

The temp difference in the hoses is more pronounced now. The new radiator took the coolant and distilled water in much quicker. Seems flow was reduced in the original one. Going out for a ride and top up the ATF...

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

All back together. No runs, no drips. I imagine the o-ring failure at the ends of the external coolant pipes may have come a little sooner with the engine running hotter the last few months. Knock on wood, she's good to go for a couple of months now...

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

Maybe not. I added about a quarter of a quart to the reservoir tonight. My daughter drove it all day today. I'll have to get a closer look tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Could it be where that coolant Y-pipe connects to the rear of each cylinder head? I'm not sure what type of seal is used between the pipes and the heads, but it might be something to check (unfortunately !@#$).

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

I would give it a day or two. after you drain a system it will burp some of the air out and will suck over a little juice.

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

Thanks for both of the suggestions.

I can see that pipe at the back of the heads and the seal there is bone dry on both sides. There are 2 paper type gaskets there. I'll keep checking, though.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ryan's thought plays out! I'm not seeing any coolant on the ground.

Feltch- No visible leaks is a good thing. Like Ryan says, it's near impossible to get the system totally purged of air & takes awhile to fill the air pockets. I bet that's all it is!

Re: Rodeo still leaking coolant

Thanks! I added less than half an inch to the reservoir today, and nothing but A/C condensate on the ground. I'll sleep better tonight knowing the wife was wrong ("Just trade the damn thing in!").
