It's a good looking car even today. I'm glad Subaru didn't change much from the concept car, which was designed by Giugiaro. Unfortunately, there is no kit or even a diecast, so I always wanted to scratchbuild this car. My brother has the real car, so, I have no problem finding a good reference, and I even have a brochure with the factory drawings. But, I never got started.

Hiro, any idea what is in those links? Is it a scratchbuild or prototype?

Those sites haven't been updated for 2 years, so I kinda assume that those are dead. The second link, it says it's expected to be finished by the end of the century, so I waited, but it was never finished, and I don't know the current status.

This is about two years overdue, but does anyone own an SVX kit by now that they would like to sell or trade

Re: Subaru SVX

Since I keep close eye on SVX and SVX kit, I have to reply.

Studio 27 has released the SVX in 1/24 a while ago. I believe it was priced around 17000 yen. Unfortunately, the kit was only available through the site called www.tanomi.com (tanomikomu means request in Japanese) where various projects are posted, and when the site receives a certain number of commitments, they negotiate with a potential manufacture to produce the requested item.
Right now, Daihatsu Copen, Eunos Cosmo and Jeep Cherokee are receiving high requests, but haven't reached the minimum order of 200.

The SVX kit pops up on Yahoo Japan Auction every so often, but so far, I haven't see any that are priced significantly less than the original price.

WTF?

The two Merkurs were sold in the US by Mercury, basically US versions of European Ford Scorpio (sedan) and Sierra (XR4 Ti). They were overpriced and not attractive.

They had nothing at all in common with Eagles (various domestic Chrysler/European-Renault-based/Japanese-Mitsubishi-based, some good, some bad) sold as cars by Chrysler in many Jeep dealerships. No Eagles were called SVX like the Italian-designed Subaru...Eagle might have had an SRX, but they all lacked SEX appeal and thus died a deserved death

Re: Subaru SVX

See? Not many even know what the SVX is. I borrowed my borther's a few times, and it's a wonderful grand touring car. Sadly Subaru only made 6000 of them world wide.

>jay
I believe Studio 27 made 200 copies of the SVX kit.

I loved the SVX, but the price was high and because of that they were always a rare sight. The show-car miniature side glass seemed to make some people feel uneasy. Because Tamiya did the XT coupe, we just assumed they'd give us a kit of the bigger, better, more beautiful SVX....sadly that never happened. In the meantime we got WRX's and Legacies...sure hope the new Legacy gets immortalized in styrene.. It's quite the looker, especially in GT form. The US finally gets it's own variation of the B4.

Re: Subaru SVX

They are quite rare, I don't think the design really clicked with many people, either. I think I've seen one ever here in Louisiana, but I see a couple with each trip I take to Boston. I seem to see a lot of rare (but not exactly exotic) cars in Boston. I saw two Isuzu Vehicrosses in one day last time I was there!

[/willimo proving he knows what the SVX is so he can be cool, too....]

i honnestly have only heard of the mercury merkur, probally only added eagle b/c of neverstrikes post that i was talking about. When i said that they were nasty i guess i should have worded it much diffrently, I mean't nasty looking not nasty like it looks good. There is one parked down the street from my house and hasn't run in 4 years, i can't stand the sight of the turd and try not to pass that house if i can b/c it's such an eyesore.

and i really did not mean to say they were called the svx too, I don't know what happened there. I was at work when i posted that yesterday and obviously was not paying attention to what i was saying. I don't know alot about the subaru svx but what i was getting at was that i pass an old man driving a blue one everyday after work on I-459. This is the only one i have ever seen up close and it is a very unique car, plus he takes immaculate care of it.
