Talking Sleeper Tuarus ?

Hey guys,

I am really thinking about bulding a sleeper taurus. But I don't know what to do first or where to start. Most of all I dunno what or where to buy so fare as mods are concerned .

This is my formulation for the easiest and cheapest sleeper Taurus. Get a '96 or '97 Taurus GL or G with a blown engine or trans if possible, with a blown engine or trans this should run about $2000, a running one should be about $5000-$6000. Then get the 4.6L DOHC engine, AX4N trans, ECU, and motor and trans mounts from a '96+ Lincoln Continental. Do some headwork on the 4.6 and get an AFC and you're looking at a reliable and good looking mid 14 second taurus for under $10000. With nitrous you'd be solidly in the 13's but I'm not quite sure the trans could handle the 350hp that setup would put down without some modification.

LOL, good luck with that. Seeing how the 4.6 is rwd and the biggest engine in a taurus is the 3.8L V6 and the SHO 3.4L V8. Just get a SHO...

Theres a bunch down in Australia that take the Austrailian version of the Taurus and drop in a DOHC 4.6V8, bulletproof the tranny, and spit out 390 HP. It can be done, you just need to gut the engine room and shoehorn the thing in.

They call it the "GT" and "GT-P". Make sure you arent wearing any pants when you check the site, you might make a mess in them when you see the stuff they do. Now, I wonder how much it would cost to import one of these...

the Continental is a FWD car based off the taurus chassis, and it comes with a 4.6 DOHC V8. if you don't know what you're talking about, then keep your fingers still.

All of that work for a mid 14 second car. The SHO already is a mid 14 second car, If you want it to look exactly like a GL just swap the ground effects and wheels. Also you can get a really good SHO for under $3000.

Those cars are Falcons, and RWD, not FWD Aussie versions of the Taurus.

I thought about building a few RWD Taurii from early bodies (both sedan and wagon form), using the 5.0 drivetrain, IRS from a TBird SC, and very little fabrication work (less than the kits to install the 5.0 and RWD drivetrain into the Focus that Kugel has, and that's a bolt in kit...)

But I wouldn't mind building a RWD coupe from the current Taurus chassis, either, just to be unique. Like this Pshop job I did:
