amp & sub question

was thinking of getting the lightening audio combo set of 450watt 2 channel amp, 10"sub in truck box with wireing kit and putting it in my 92, was wondering if it would be atleast a half way decent set-up, not going for loudness, just want something to last a while, and give me some base to my already growing (cheap but good sounding)system in there. put it a jvc kdg-100 i think head unit,i still have the stock(or guessing they are stock havnt changed them) speakers in dash, new 6x9s roadmasters in back, and 2 boxes of 6.5" & tweeter in on the floor under the front seats in back. it may have been cheap speakers and got alot of neg. thoughts from me getting roadmasters, but they sound real good, and 100% better then what was in there, and now im wanting some base to go with everything else. i wasnt trying to be cheap, its just what i found and it sounded good(quality & price). was hoping to hide the amp by putting it under one of the seats if it would have enough room for air under there, if not would have to go to the trunk area then. i liked the bundle of the amp box & sub since its a truck box and i know it would fit in the trunk, and cant beat the price, even buying another brand of stuff individually couldnt get the same stuff for the price which i think it was around 175 for the bundle. have heard good stuff about lightening since they are made by fosgate i think is what i heard. thanx for any info.

Re: amp & sub question

would like to keep it as cheap as possible since im on a budget, thats why i liked that lightening audio set since it had all i would need(amp box sub & wires). was asking about putting it under the seats since i work at a mall, and would like to keep it unseen and avoiding drilling into the trunk area above the gas tank.

Re: amp & sub question

they have some sony x-plode, pioneer, & vr(roadmaster) amps at the wally worlds around here, the pioneers & sonys are cheaper there then bestbuy & circuit city, which is the 2 big named places around here with car audio at reasonable price. my brother had told me before to go to a pawn shop to get the stuff, but i would rather have new so i know the stuff would work. i would like to stay around 200 but at most maybe 250, may not be much for a loud system, but all i would like is bass to go with the rest of my system, would like to feel the bass too, dont care if you hear me from 1/4 mile away like some people like

walmart wiring is also known to fail and melt causing burnt carpet and smoke or fire.

Yeah.. if I were you i'd put your amp behind your rear seats, in the hatch area, above your gas tank, BTW do not drill because theres about half an inch of space to your gas tank and a leak is something you dont need, so you can use some velcro or something to keep the amp from moving, then ofcourse put the subs in the trunk and everything. Btw its best to put some rear window tint or like throw some clothes in the back like a couple of shirts over everything, so it seems like a crap car or something, to keep it unsuspicious..

Re: amp & sub question

i wasnt going to get the subs from wally, unless i got that lightening audio set, they want to much for the wires at bestbuy & circuit city 100+ for the kits. so i guess buying the power & ground from another place would be cheapest, i dont see why their wires for $100+ would be better then wires say from home-depot or anything, just has a brand printed on them.

Re: amp & sub question

if you have an alpha audio in your area go there they sell all the wires by feet so its pretty cheap...you can probably go to any car audio place in your area and they will sell you wires by the foot...its much cheaper then best buy and circuit city

Re: amp & sub question

ok i got me a a set from bestbuy, its an insignia set with 2 12" subs. the guy that sold it to me said in a camaro trunk, if i had them both in that it should be very loud if i faced the subs toward the hatch glass.i just have to build a box, anyone have plans for a box for camaro trunk? thats big enough for 1 12, im only going to put the 1 in so i can keep trunk space(jack & fluids takes most of it when i get a box in there) and keep the full backseat, well passenger backseat, no one will fit behind me since i got seat pulled all the way back so i can drivei comfortably. i was originally only going to get 1 10" but couldnt pass up the amp 2 speaker combo for the price, just takes a little more work for me to make it fit. and thats where im needing anyones help again, for a trunk box for 1 12 to fit in one side or across the bottom where its notched off like for a t-box or whatever its called. it shouldnt be hard to draw up the plan, but the trunk latch motor cover is what throws me off and not sure how i should make the box, i will make the box this weekend, when i finish wiring the car(i ran out of power wire due to the way i routed, i went thru a hole the prev. owner drilled thru on the drivers side instead of finding/making my own on passenger side with the battery. any plans would be nice, with drawing/pic whatever would be even better. i was thinking of notching the box the whole way down to make room for the trunk latch area, but then even if i brought it up from there its still short of being a cubic ft and wouldnt be big enough for the sub to fit in. im not thinking to good today. i know the bottom is like 12" widex 10" deep at the bottom and if notched for the latch its around 7.5" x 6" on the notched side, i was semi good in math and even if sup would fit in the top, its still just under the 1cu.ft.
im not going to be picky on the type of box/material so any help im greatful for. could i attach the amp to the hump over the gas tank with a short enough self tapping screw like maybe a 1/2-3/4" screw?
i was also thinking of using 1/2-3/4" mdf since thats what most of the boxes i have seen around are made out of, and what to use to keep it air tight, silicone caulk?
thanx for anymore help, this is the best place for any maro help i have found

Re: amp & sub question

or sum kinda design for something like this one http://www.subthump.com/images/camaro/ttop/tattop.jpg i think i could live with that, if it could be removed easily to get to stuff on bottom, or hinging it to lift/swing the subs out of the way to get under, if that could be done. thought that was a good idea if it could work.

Re: amp & sub question

i bought my own, was around 400 dollars with a discount though. Its a Pro-box with ports and fits 2 12's and fits right in the back of the camaro/firebird trunk. Subs hit hard as a mother F'er in that box.
