Question Fender flares

Hi, I bought my 04 silvy new without fender flares and added them (OEM) to it afterwards. I got tired of the look after the first year and decided to take them off only to find that they had nearly worn a groove through my nice black paint all along the edges of where the flares meet the body. Now I was thinking of getting them painted glossy black and reinstalling them but can anyone recommend some kind of a gasket or foam to go between the flare and the body so it doesnt wear right through the paint? Also has anyone had any luck with painting flares before?

P.S. If anyone is thinking of installing OEM flares to their truck you had better find some kind of gasket because they not only will wear through the paint in 2 years they also trap lots of dirt and salt inside them.

You can usually find an adhesive foam tape in the chain parts stores, usually marketed under the name "Camper Tape", or something along those lines. It's sold in a big roll, and is pretty easy to work with, and cut to fit your application, and stands up to the weather pretty well.
