97 JGC Check Engine Light Code Issue
Hello,
I am brand new here. Hello to all my fellow Jeep owners. I have researched the forum trying to troubleshoot my check engine light. I just tried the on, off, on, off, on method of getting codes from the digital odometer. The problem is, my check engine light does not begin to blink. There are no audible or visual signs of trouble, but I have an inspection coming up and in New York if the check engine light is on it will not pass, besides the fact if something is wrong I want to fix it. Thanks in advance for any clues. 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. |

Re: 97 JGC Check Engine Light Code Issue
If your jeep is equipped with digital odometer, the trouble code should appear in the ODOMETER. i.e. P1719.
Turn key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON and it should appear in the odometer. |

Hey. Go to Autozone, they'll check it for free. If you're due real soon for the inspection, beware, you'll HAVE to get whatever is wrong fixed soon. The inspection station can tell if a code was "cleared" within a 1-2 week period of normal driving. Even if you've fixed the problem and all is good, that "clear" will have to have gone thru so many key cycles (not sure how many) to disappear. If the "clear" still shows at time of inspection, you can be failed. Good Luck Bro'!!
