Eclipse alarm or something else

My daughter has a 98 Eclipse RS. She is away at college. Last week I had to go work on the car because the battery was dead. When I boosted it the lights flashed. It started and we took it to Advance and they said that the battery and alternator were good. Since the lights flashed when I boosted it I thought that maybe the alarm had went bad and drained the battery. I pulled the fuse under the dash marked "anti-theft". In a couple of days the car quit while driving down the interstate, she put it in neutral and restarted it. When she got back to the dorm it didn't want to start again, and now it won't start at all. The is no spark. I replaced the coil pack yesterday but still no fire. Could this be tied to a faulty alarm system shutting down the ignition ? The good folks at Advance said it could be the crank sensor. She lives about 2hrs from home and I would like to get some ideas before I make another trip. Thanks

Put the fuse back and see what happens.

What does it do when you try to start it? If you had to jump it, obviously the battery is not holding a charge. I would start by buying a new battery, and see if that gets it to turn over. If so, you just needed a new battery. If not, take the battery back and go from there.

Re: Eclipse alarm or something else

Hey, I had teh same problem in the past, but it was in my cavalier, and not my eclipse. But same thing anyway.

It turned out that the battery I bought was defective (brand new too), a mechanic told me that one of the cells in the battery, was broken and touching another cell, and prevented the car from turning on!

So just try a new battery!
