KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

I've always been curious about this. I usually shift at 2.5-3.5k rpms and never really dared to test it to the redline. What's a stock KADE's redline, is that tach the real deal or from turbo cars?

What RPMs do you shift your 1991-1998 KA24DE standard at?

Thanks and have fun with this one...

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

On a stock KADE, the power drops off around 5.5k, the redline is like 6900. It's not the same tach as the SR powered cars.

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

with current gas prices.... i drive conservatively. 3.5 would be too high for me... i usually cruise in-town at 1.8~2.5.

don't think nissan is that careless. they would ensure tach is matched up with the motor. that's pretty vital.

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

This is sad, I have an engine that revs too lows lol. I'm still interested in how others drive their KA's, preferably modified in some way, so that the car is faster and the engine has more to keep up with...

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

My KA saw 7000+ RPMs constantly, because I didn't care.

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

depending on the gear I shift right at 6900rpm or 6500.My power starts dropping off at 6500rpm thanks to my dual s13 exhaust cams

4500rpm to redline is where all the fun is at on my car due to my mods.It feels very un-KA like.I love it

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

I shift at 6100 because stock cams suck. But it has seen 7000rpm on a couple occasions.

Gas prices are the worst excuse ever....

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

7k...7k....6.5,6.6,...7k!!!!!!! I can't imagine taking it up to that, it seems like too much work and it won't be pushing enough. then again, sometimes minivans pull on me so maybe I'm driving too slowly.

How many people here double clutch? highway/track wherever. I just started and it doesn't seem like it makes much of a difference but it seems smoother. I still don't get it.

That's what I thought about it(FnF) until I looked it up and actually found useful information. helps clutch life, keeps rpms instead of dropiing them etc etc etc. But those are enough. Not sure how 'naturally' you would have to do this for it to make a difference but the pluses sound convincing. Instead of +50hp stickers

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

I'm sooooooooooooooooo well off making $7/hr. I dont even know why I joined the Navy?!?!?!? pssh should just keep making this so I can use as much gas as I want...

Its not even double clutching... its rev matching. And its only really useful for downshifting in racing scenarios. Other than that, its useless.

Re: KA24DE's RPM range and when do you shift?

I went out for a test drive and I think I got the rpms to 5.5 to 6k and I didn't want to go higher than that, but the KA sang true. I have to admit, that was really cool.
