Question Both Regular Headlights Out!?

I got back into my 03' Elantra after dinner on Saturday. It was dark, and I went to turn on the headlights. The parking lights (small yellow ones on the corners) came on, but both headlights were not working when the selector on the stalk was into the 'on' position. My thought was the fuse.

But then I discovered the brights were working fine. It seams strange because it is a realtively new car and only has 36k miles on it. Could both headlights have burnt out like that? It is still under warrenty but I thought I'd post to see if anyone had some ideas.

Thanks!

Headlight and foglight bulbs are covered under the 5yr 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Hello
i had this same problem with my 02 but its because i had fog lights hooked up to my low beams. as with the 03 there is a different set of blubs for the low, and a different set for the high. its most likely the fuse. there is a fuse panel in your engine compartment, usally located on the driverside. open that up and check on of the small fuses its either a 10-15 size fuse. if its blown there may be a short in a wire somewhere, or the bulb may of just blown. hope this helps

I've also got an '03 Elantra & both low beam headlights did burn out with in a few hours of each other. Replaced both bulbs & haven't had a problem since. It is possible for both bulbs to burnt out very closely together.

Re: Both Regular Headlights Out!?

My son has an 02 Elantra and had the same thing happen. We checked it out and whether this is true or not, we were told that the highs and lows are on separate circuits and if one bulb burns out, the other one will get a surge or extra voltage routed to it because of the burned out bulb not drawing it's share of the power. In turn, the good bulb will last just a little while longer before it burns out too. His lows burned out within 3 minutes of each other and upon replacing them with stock bulbs, he has not had a problem since.
